Thank you very much, to cut a long story short, no it has a 5 speed box I drove 300 miles yesterday to go and pick it up and paid £5,800.00 for it, it has been magazine featured and is 340bhp its subaru white with a grey roof not sure if any of you know the car. The gearbox decided on the way home to give up, however the magazine stated it had a 6 speed, and I want to get a quote on a replacement and just wondered what the standard box was good for, or if any of you have an idea what is needed.
I feel like I have been ripped off as this was only one thing wrong but there was also a few other bits, I was not told about over the phone.:cry:

What a bugger, was it making any noises when you we're driving or did it just all of sudden just go pop bang?Could it not just be the clutch?

As for a replacment box i think, but don't quote me, it's a o2a or an o2j box, i'm sure someone here will tell you for definate.

It would not go into 3rd to well, and then just spat a load of oil and started chattering. I have always been a ford lover but when I saw this was well pleased but now to be honest just feel really disheartened :( Thank you for all your help though mate, if you do have an idea of cost and a rough figure what the box can take as standard that would be really good

Carlisle Petes old car by the sound of things. I remember reading the magazine article saying 6 speed but i think that was just a mis-print on their part

Totally off topic but hanworth is not too far from me. Hopefully you get it sorted mate and i see it around soon.

I hope so to mate, the cars are really nice to drive, and scarily fast , where do you live??

Who did you buy it off?

Not sure who the matey was, he was all the way from Newcastle, and now is being a twat and is refusing to help pay for the box

As bill says check the box it may well be a 6 speed but i think i remember Pete saying that was 1 of the few things they got wrong in the mag feature

sorry to hear your troubles mate, if it makes you feel any better its one of my fav cupras, I was half tempted to sell up just to buy it rather than paying out a fortune to get mine sprayed the same color (which i may still do)

Best of luck getting it sorted

So thats why it was so cheap.... he must of had an idea i`d say.

I had a new box put in mine recently, that set me back almost 1k and that was without the removel and refitting of an LSD which im pretty sure yours has.

Sounds like P77 BRUs car that was carlisile petes. Its a 5 speed box. Sounds like the 3rd gear synchro was on its way anyway if that wasnt what failed. If you can get a quaife/peloquin diff in there while you are having the gearbox done as it will help put the power down alot better. Pete never got around to this before selling I dont think but it will help alot.

Unlucky that the gearbox went on the way home. Not something you can tell exactly when its going to happen but it was v.cheap. Mine went the day after mapping in spectacular style leaving many holes in the gearbox casing. New box was fully rebuilt with a quaife diff and is so nice now! Dont let it dishearten you...you will love IHI when you having it running again.

Hmm...from what I saw/read he was going to get internals done and get a diff but decided to sell instead as he had spent so much £s on it already and was never going to get it back. Im sure one of them will say when they see this. Easy to see when the box is out anyway. If it does hope its not be mullered!

TBH If he had said to me over the phone it needs x,y,z doing to it, thats why its the price it is I may not feel so ripped off, I did not think this was that cheap as I had a look at some others and they were going for around 4k, with lower mileage but just not as high spec. He did mention a few things and I was willing to pay the price e.g it needed tax, new front tyres and new break pads, He failed to mention the new discs, the new gearbox, the creases in the roof, new tyres all round the jacking cover missing, the busted seat runner drivers side, just to name a few. I maybe should have done my homework a little better before parting with my money but like I said I was a ford man, but this just caught my eye. He also said it had been serviced a week before but the oil was black, the air filter had not been touched and tbh looked like the bonnet had never been lifted since he had it. I feel that I was being reasonable to ask him to pay 50/50 towards the g/box and forget the rest I have since found that I am legally allowed to have my money back or ask him to pay the full amount as the car was misrepresented.
I have worked hard saving for a reliable fast car and just feel gutted that I travelled all that way to be sold a car on dishonesty.
