bosch super 4's, you can buy them in halfords for £20 for the pack :)

coil packs are one of those things that, if they work, they work.... if they fail, they fail.

so if its working i would leave it well alone :) (ps my car has 131k miles on it and its got the original coil pack)

Just had a look in Halfrauds there
Yep there £20 :(

Seen a set of 4 on ebay for around £5 - £7 delivered
Is there much difference quality wise in spark plugs, or are they relatively the same ?

why the unhappy face with £20 ?? dont forget spark plugs are one of the vital bits in the engine. if they are crap and cheap and fall apart whilst the engine is running it will total your engine as the ceramic tips will bounce / scrape their way around your whole engine.

so your driving a car that is miss firing ? well im glad im not driving your car.. miss firing is probably one of the worst things your engine can do.

change your spark plugs, HT leads and that will solve the issue.

does it miss fire under load or miss fire all the time ?

if its under load its deffo an HT lead / spark plug.

if its all the time and it sounds like its running on 3 cylinders then its probably a coil pack issue, btu then if it was a coil pack issue it would effect all cylinders not just 1, so i go back to my ogirinal though of replacing HT leads and spark plugs.

Remember one thing, if its a AUD engine, then Seat desided to fit the most expensive NGK plugs that Halfords sell - so why change for Bosch, I've used Bosch for years in Vauxhalls - but that is what Vauxhall fitted at factory, VAG stick with NGK and I'd say that they are great for someone that only changes their plugs every 3 or 4 years or every 45,000 miles. If you are having misfiring then maybe you should get the engine fault codes read instead of just changing any thing that might cause this. Maybe measure your HT leads with a multimeter and see if they are all roughly the same resistance, then check the inside of the plug end shrouds as they tend to get lots of crap thrown at them.

When my daughter bought a 2.5 year old Ibiza with a FSH, I scanned the engine controller for fault codes and found misfires etc, I removed the plugs and one had lost its gap contact and another had lost its centre electrode - both looked like they had been eroded. I kind of suspect this was caused by the previous owner running it on supermarket fuel. Changed plugs every 3 years 30,000 miles and she only uses branded fuel, the plugs look as good as new when they have been replaced twice.

Thanks for the help there
There is a difference with the 1.4 i have and the cupra's
I do realise that cupra's will need a higher quality due to engine/turbo

Unfortunately I do not have VAG COM but i will look into through a mate.
Do you know what type of plug a standard 1.4 would have ?

Err, no, you've missed the point, its the poor little 1.4 8V AUD that needs the expensive plugs!

Maybe look up the NGK list in Halfords - or to reduce the possible options, check for compatability against the most expensive ones they sell! I'm talking here about a 2002 MK3 1.4 8V with an engine code of AUD - check what engine code your car has before buying any more plugs. Or, even better check on NGK's website - if you take a plug out you will find the same NGK number in very small writing around the metal part - even although the plug carries a VAG logo. Just take it easy removing the plug lead as they tend to get sort off corroded a bit and can be difficult to get off - maybe using the correct tool or two screw drivers - I must admit that I've broken one plug once removing a lead as it was really stuck on - but if you have the new plugs then - so what - but its still better to avoid that.

Its a 2001 mk3 1.4 mpi
I dont know what the engine code is ..
What is AUD ?

AUD is the VAG code for this engine, have a look on the build sticker either in the boot (spare wheel well) or your service book if you were lucky enough to get it - if you find AUD listed maybe on the top or second line, then that is what your engine is. Reg dates for cars can sometimes count for nothing as it is when it was built that counts.
