*niggly* issue... / Petrol display on radio

Hey folks, this is a VERY picky issue, but I noticed the other day;

I filled up my car for the first time since buying after it arrived pretty much on fumes

Anyway! I reset the counters etc, and the gauge displays correctly, but noticed on the radio display (where you can cycle through mpg/avg mpg etc) on the petrol part, it went to 180 miles remaining, and stayed there...

As I drove another, say, 2 miles, it went to 200 miles, but after turning car off and on again now it's back to about 185/190 on the display.

I've done about 5 miles since filling it up so it's not reflective of that lol.

Now I know they are never accurate, but surely on a full tank it should be showing 250 miles remaining or similar? Does it take time to adjust?

I notice my external temp is showing a highly accurate *--* so I will change that at some point when I have time, but can't see that affecting the above...

I guess it would depend on how hard your driving the car and what mods it's got! How many miles have you done since you filled it up?

i think it fluctuates mate depending on the type of driving, like around town stopping and starting mine drops which is natural but getting on the motorway it goes right up to about 360 miles on a full tank, just depends on your driving and where ur driving maybe, see what others say mate

like the other guys said its not 100% accurate and it reflects your driving style, so if you've sat in traffic for 10 mins it'll drop....and if you do some steady driving it'll go back up etc etc

it will display a predicted mileage based on the last say 10 miles of driving,

Therefore when you filled up it included driving into the garage etc, so not that economical. then after a few miles it increase to 200 miles as yoour last few miles were more economical.
Then, when you parked up and turned it off it went down again, due to the fact you had done some miles and that parking up / starting reduced the mileage for the last few miles,

Also as it predicts in sets of 5... it can reduce by 5 if you have only done 1/2 mile. eg it may have calulated 105.3 miles left, so will display 105, then 0.5 miles later it may be 104.8. it cant say 105 as it cant do 105 miles, so it reverts to 100.

hope this makes sense.

The way the miles remaining works you will usually find at that for the first few miles of a journey the mileage is reduced, then can increase if you then drive economically.
Therefore if you tend to look at the predicted miles left at the end of journies, it will usually be optimistic as it will be calculated on the last few miles when the engine was fully warmed up and giving good mileage. So dont be surprised if it say 250 miles and you find you only got 200 as the prediction would not have taken into account the lower mpg you will get at the start of journies.

Appreciate the very helpful replies guys, especially yours andycupra.

Well, the car was transported here from Aberdeen, so not driven, i've done about 6 or 7 miles since it arrived on Monday lol
That was driving to the petrol station, and driving home!
So that would explain it not going any higher than 200, as before me, im sure the garage would have taken it for a test drive or two!

Just haven't had any time / reason to go out for a proper drive in it yet! lol I know I should be out now driving but had to rush in a few orders (I.C.E! & Filter/sparks/oil etc) so that they arrive in time for me to fit this weekend!

Gonna give the car a really good service (oil/oil filter/spark plugs(NGK PFR6Q)/replace piperx with Jetex filter/hoses etc!) this weekend, then start driving it properly from then on!:D

Bla1n3> Yea mate! Not-so-sunny Colchester! I've seen a yellow Ibiza Cupra R in Ipswich town, but that was a while ago, but don't see many up that way.
