Rear Banging Sound?.

I know the Ibiza has loads of rattles, But this one i have hacks me off no end. So today i went and had a good look.

If it go down a pot hole i get a sound that i can best describe as if the parcel shelf jumps.

Know its 100% not that, I took the parcel shelf out and the rear boot trim out and sat in the back of the car to listen while i got my dad to drive and i cant seem to pin point it anywhere. Am thinking maybe it it could be some rear shock bushes maybe?. It only seem to do it when it a pothole that "shocks" the car. Doesnt seem to do it over normal bumps in the road.

Any ideas?.

I'm interested in finding out the solution as mine's doing the same.

I think it may be top mounts on the shock as mentioned above.

Thanks.

Bondiblu, Can you an audio recording of your car doing this?.

Mines doesnt sound like a "bang" its sounds like the parcelself jumps.

But will have a look once the warmer weather comes as theres are a few jobs a want to do with the car.

I'll try sort out a recording, but mine sounds exactly like you are describing. Thought it may also be the spare tyre or the tools sitting in the spare. May remove these briefly just to eliminate these as a possibility.

Giving this a bump. Its still being doing it and now its driving me mad and if i dont find what it is i am gonna kick the car.

Well over the weekend i have had all the rear seats out and door cards to see if it was from there, As it seems to be coming from the rear somewhere. Plus put some sound deading inside the rear to help road noise.

Now i am pretty sure its not the parcel shelf, Nor the rear wheel/toolkit or the parcel shelf.

I did think it was the rear seats doing it, So tryed putting rubber around the catchs and other bits but thats not done much, Has helped mind.

So could it still be topmounts?, It seems to make bang bang sound when going over pot holes or sunk drain covers. Or anything that quickly shocks the rear suspension.

Well thats what i do now lol, But when people are in the car with me they want to talk  so have to turn it down.

I am off work for 10days and really wanna fix the problem while i can. I went to a garage for VAG cars where they guys there are sound. They said it could be rear console bushes but thats an arse of a job. I did ask about topmounts but they said they never change them, But console bushes have been done on many MK4 Golfs.

Could it be the topmount on the rear passanger side, Or even a knackered rear shock?. When i go up and down biggish speed bumps at slow speeds i can hear a "hum hum".
