MK1 Leon Aura 6 CD Head Unit

Hello there,

Sorry if this is the wrong place to post. I've been looking loads but can't seem to find what i need :(

On the das in between the speedo and rev meter there are two rectangular sections. In my old toledo they used to light up with the radio station i was listening to and volume i think.

They don't seem to light up in my new Leon :(

Any ideas?

Also, second question (sorry i'm a cheeky sod!)

If I pull out the stereo is there an aux connection to run my ipod through? Maybe connect a jack or red/white phono leads?

Finally, my car came without a handbook, so I have no code for the radio if ever i need it, is there a way round this or would it be gameover?

Hi Tom - I can't help much but can confirm that the radio should display information on the radio also on the dash where you describe. Mine does at least (2001 Cupra Leon).

I'll be taking out my own radio (the standard Aura) this weekend to check the rear for good tight connections (my display flickers) and I'll check the rear to see how this is connected to the dash if that helps?

I doubt the unit has an phono input but it "might" have a mini din - again I'll check this weekend and see! I don't know that it does but....

You don't say which headunit you have? Does it have a name?

Cheers for replying :)

I' thinkin the same about pulling it out and checking the connections, i need some of them special keys though.

I don't know the model of it.

It is an Aura that came as standard. It has a cassette on the front and a 6 CD changer in the glove box.

Ahh...The same as mine then! Yup, you should definately have the dash mirroring what the radio displays. I do have the keys so I'll whip mine out this weekend (or possibly today if it's another day off work! :) ) and take some photos of the cables and connections.

Halfords sell the keys, VW will pull the unit out for you if you ask nicely. I've not asked the favour of a Seat place yet but I'm sure they would! VW gave me my keys for free when I asked them to pull my VW radio out!

Cheers Tom

I can probably chuck a few useful ideas in here -

radio keys - just snap a hacksaw blade in half and use that

radio display - this may depend on the model of Leon you have.
Some don't have a functional screen....or you may find that the yellow (or green) square plug <if fitted> on the back of the radio is just loose and a quick shove back into place brings the display to life

aux input - there isn't one :(
You can buy an adapter that replaces the CD changer connection (but then you loose the CD changer obviously)
You could get a cassette adapter - not pretty, but at least it's simple... and cheap
One final option is to hack into the CD changer plug, which I think at least one person on here has done, or instead of getting an aux-in adapter from the likes of Soundlinx, you could get a Panasonic CD changer adapter (& a cheap Panasonic changer, which is a direct fit) and depending on use, leave the red and white phono plugs accessible in the glovebox so you can plug in your iPod or whatever as required. The headunit will tell the CD player to play a disc, but the sound will be interrupted with whatever's plugged into the phono plugs

I'd be very careful about exploring any of these options without a radio code though, cos if the headunit looses power for just a split second, it's dead !
(or costs you £25 at SEAT for the code)

Ah ha - Thanks for that Tiewl!

Tom - Took my h/u out today and can confirm there is no output. Sockets on the back (other than the standard ISO sections - power and speaker plugs) are three colour sockets. There's a connection for the CD player (data, audio and power) and then connections for the headphone sockets (may not exist on your version) in the back seats.

I took a photo and I'll attempt to attach it! - Stupid forum rules! Ican't post the picture but could email it to you?

It does say in the Seat Audio handbook that if you forget your code ( I quote)

" If the radio card with code number should be lost, please contact a SEAT dealer. There you will get all the help needed without any expense."

So they consider £25 no expense! ;)

I did manage to get my display on the dash to go off - disconnected the green plug in the middle of the three - might be worth checking it's seated correctly on yours?

Thats something i will have to look at with the code. My car came without the handbook so i don't have any information like that!

Hello there
Come across this forum post now, I have a seat Toledo 2004 with a CD player and CD changer. I've recently installed a Motorola T605 Car kit.
I think I have more or less the same problem as the guy in the previous post in that my Motorola cark it requires my CD stereo to have a red and white phono input for the music to be streamed via Bluetooth without the disconnected I can't listen to any music using the Bluetooth kit
Any ideas...?
