Has anyone fitted Gas lifter struts to their bonnet like on the Mk1 Leons, to get rid of the ghey metal support. Was thinking of doing it but wondered if anyone on here had attempted first?

There have been quite a few of us that have done this conversion, I copied mine off the Seat racing TDI's but using the tailgate gas struts AND end fittings from the Seat Arosa [scrap yard cost £10.00 the pair].
But YOU must make sure the bonnet brackets and fixings are strong - there is a LOT of stored energy in a compressed strut which could punch a hole/dent in your bonnet !!
I tried to fit the bonnet lifters as per the spanish forum instructions. Had much difficulty with that method and when i eventually had it fitted and closed the bonnet the gaps that form with the windscreen pillar were massive. The struts fitted to the bonnet pushed the bonnet up at the rear. I dunno if my struts were too strong so i ended up doing it like so . . .
