linglong tyres WTF!!!!

right iv not that long ago bought a leon tdi 130 with some linglong 205/55/16 tyres fitted to the front, now my problem is that in second and third gear when the turbo kicks in (not even hard acceleration) the traction controll light goes mad and if i turn it off i start to slide all over the place now obviously this is a bit of a problem and i was just wondering if it is the fact that these tyres are **** or is it the fact that the 130tdi had so much torque that no matter what tyres are on there it will spin????? now i dont really want to change them as they are brand new and i dont have enough money to splash on new tyres, they seem to have good levels of grip when im out on the open road, so is it the **** tyres or is it just the car???

I'd imagine by the brand of the tyres they aren't going to be the best for handling. The usual suspects like Continental, Pirelli, Goodyear would improve the handling but ultimately you will have to spend some money to improve the grips levels.

I remember changing the tyres on my Saxo VTR from goodyear eagle F1's to some cheap non brand ones and wish I hadn't, it became pretty dangerous to be honest! I was glad when i fitted some Toyo Proxes. My LCR runs continental sport contacts BTW.

Get hold of Autocar magazine today and read the tyre test on budget tyres. Then get your credit card/sell your pets/pimp your chick/auction your gran and feel absolutely confident that you are doing a good thing buying new tyres. You can always wrap the linglongs around a speed camera, fill with fuel, take out some matches........ and put those tyres to good use.

no speed cameras on the island well looks like im going to have to buy a full set of new tyres as the ones on the back dont have much life left in them, any suggestions on relatively cheap tryes that arent going to kill me in the wet (iv had goodyear hydragrips on my previous beemer and they seemed like good tyres) also im going to be getting a set of bigger wheels at somepoint so can splash the cash on some good tyres for them

Go for Hankook Evo v12's, just fitted 4 to my Golf 150pd (same size tyres as yours) and they have impressed me so far, much better than the Michelin Primacy HP's that were on there before. The Hankooks are currently about £50 a tyre in your size on camskills website.
The V12's are doing really well in the german car mags, see below, it is beating most of the big brands, michelin, dunlop, continental, bridgestone etc:
They are also cheaper than Toyo T1R's that a lot of people on here will recommend, which don't fair well in the second link.

www.camskill.co.uk for tyres shows you all sorts of makes available & prices. very well priced generally. where i get most of mine.

consider also "winter" tyres which will be suited to colder/wetter conditions. RobT swears by his.

I'm on Avon ZZ3's (18" wheels) and they are value for money, but to be totally honest.... still a compromise to some degree when pushing hard in the wet. Great in the dry though. I had Pirelli P-Zero Rosso's on the 17" Wheels (front only) and they were amazing and lasted 22k miles but I did a lot of M'way driving. Also on past cars (M3, S3 and Honda Accord Type R) I've used Goodyear Eagle F1's and they are equally impressive. It all comes down to cost though and I did renew the front Avons with another pair of the same.

I'm not entirely convinced they're as good in cold weather as Toyo T1-Rs, but the difference is marginal - on the whole I agree. (and they're both really summer tyres)

I really like the F1's GSD3's. I had them fitted on the Accord last year and are an excellent tyre.

The Conti's (Sport Contact 2) are quite a good tyre (excellent in the dry but no way near as good in the wet/damp conditions as the Goodyears) and are on the Leon at the moment. The front's will be due for replacement soon (3mm left) and it will be a toss between the Falkens or Goodyear next (poss F1's Asym). A point to raise at the next meet.

hmm six months and iv almost gone through a pair of hankooks evo v12's i also bought a pair of falken fk452's to replace the linglong a while ago and i am very impressed with them, so impressed infact that iv bought a full set of 235/40/17 falkens for my fr alloys that iv just bought, will need to update my progress blog with new pics when i get them fitted

What sort of miles you getting out of your continentals mate?? thinking of getting the sport contact 3's for my LCR next as my pirelli p zeros are rubbish
