Getting my 07 2.0 TFSI Cupra tomorrow - what should I be checking?

Hi All -:D

I trade my 06 2.0 Altea TDI FR for a Leon 2.0 TFSI Cupra tomorrow.
The new car is being purchased for a Main Agent (as was the FR) Is there anything specific - I should be checking or making sure that they have done??

I've read the Cam Follower, post - which has worried me a little - as its a May 07 Model. Is there anything else I should be checking??

Your helps really appreciated guys - I really want to enjoy this Cupra !!

Should have had at least 1 service at 10K / 1 year.

I would check the alloy wheels for signs of scuffing, check all the electrics work. The wheel hub will probably be rusty, try and get the dealer to treat them for you.

I would also start the engine and let it warm up to check everything is okay, mine made funny smells sometimes.

If it is black check very closely for signs of swriling in the paint. Inferi was a horrible colour to keep nice.

Check that the gear change is nice and smooth.

Switch on the climate control to check that all works okay and there aren't any smells.

Check that the seats are nice and secure and there are no problems with the stitching.

Enjoy!!!

Welcome. Not really much to check and you will probably find the follower is fine anyway. Nobody has posted up about a problem in that department other than one user on here with an uprated fuel pump and high fuelling settings on his remap.

The only thing you might want to check for are rattles in the exhaust (exhaust internals have failed given in on several Cupras), wear on the brake discs and pads (as replacements are not that cheap) and ensure that you have all the paper work and stamped service book/paper work.

Enjoy :)

The wheels are Black Orion's (I think - stand seat design)

regarding the paint - which is Inferi Black - I ve asked them to put that 'shine protect' stuff on from Autoglym.
This they tell me will make keeping the car a lot easier.

Is it as good as they say?

If the car is May 2007 the wheels are either not the original ones or have been repainted to black. Mine was July 2007 and black wheels weren't an option then. Not an issue though if its been done properly.

I has the Autoglym Lifeshine and it was a waste of space. :(

Made no difference whatsoever to keeping the car clean and actually spoilt the interior.

Basically to keep Inferi nice you need to continually wash and polish the car. Just washing it doesn't really help. I could wash mine, leave it on the drive for a day and it would still get dirty :(

The keys tips I can give you about Inferi is never take it to a car wash, jet wash or let a brush anywhere near it, the paint is really soft. The instructions for the Lifeshine actually warn against car washes, jet washes etc.

Buy a proper drying towel, best £10 I ever spent. The polish you will probably get with the lifeshine is the wrong one for the car, you'll need to buy Autoglym Ultra Deep Shine I think its called.

Don't bother with Lifeshine as Phil says, complete waste of time and the cars I've seen using it tend to have a poor dull looking finish.

Get yourself some proper detailing products, a good polish, sealant and a wax if you want to keep it looking in tip top condition.

Black is a bad colour for keeping clean at the best of times, its not something inherent to Inferi. But for the short amount of time they stay clean and polished they look stunning. ;)

But if you put in a little TLC each month to clean it properly, it will stay looking its best for longer and hold its value too.

Make sure when you get the car to check the big peddle....give it a hard push and then check how much quicker it is than the Fr TDI!

Check the tyres for legal tread. if they are within a mm or two then have a word with the dealer about sorting them.

Good luck with the toy.

Sometimes your too busy trying to focus on the complicated stuff - and forget the basics !! :)

cam follower will be fine if car isnt modified at that age.

Just had my 07 serviced for it's 20k had the follower removed and checked as worried about this issue and it was fine, not put up the pics yet though. Not really anything to say apart from check the electrics, ensure the fold up mirrors work fine ie don't struggle (had one of mine replaced under warranty. Also check for misitng in the fog lamps (also had one swapped under warranty). Beyond that car is running fine. As someone said black rims are not an option on an 07 car but many people have had them painted as they look good :)..

Most important of all enjoy it and have fun :)

Depending on where you are I am sure Iain from finerdetails would be more than happy to give you a full detail and show you how to keep your car tip top. Something I get done at least once a year :)
