hey

i have a 1.6 cordoba vario 2000 plate when i drive through a big puddle doent have to be fast the engine will cut out. sounds like it drops a cylinder then it drops down to 500rpm the stalls.

when you stop car wont start it trys but wont start leave it for 5 mins starts fine.

thought it as the roter arm so i replaced it and spark plugs with still no joy but when the engine is about to drop the cylinder the rev counter will jump about but the engine will not change its dying revs

does any one have any solutions? will be very greatful

Most common are the ignition coil and distributor cap.

On the ignition coil you have to check very closely, look for scorch marks, cracks, white marks. These can be TINY so look carefully.

Pop the dizzy cap off, squeeze gently and look for cracks.

The dizzy cap has five HT leads coming out of the top of it, its usually at the front or mounted on the right side of the engine as you look at it.

There are two clips which hold it on, which you might need a flat nose screwdriver to gently lever off.

When its off, squeeze it gently and look for any cracks in the plastic, if so you need a new one. Also check the four metal contacts on the inside, which might have white crap on them which will need scraping off. Also, in the inside roof, there is a carbon rod, its black and should look smooth and is like a pencils rubber in shape, if that is broken replace the cap.

If you follow the middle HT lead from the cap you will find the ignition coil. You need to look for any marks or cracks on the casing, see this link below, different coil but same principle;

If you need to replace the cap, get the new cap and do each HT lead one at a time so you dont muck up the firing order.

Mum had a Saxo that used to do it whenever it rained too hard/wrong direction - kept a can of WD40 in the car to spray the dizzy when it looked like rain to help keep the rain off :)

I can bet on that it is a problem of the ignition coil.Dont beat around the bush,Instead change it and everything will be fine.
