You couldn't just add a turbo anyway, the compression ratio would be all wrong for a start so you would need loads of internal work..assuming the block is strong enough in the first place. Sell the car and get a 1.8T (or a TDI if you must ;))

Just sell it and buy a 100 PD TDi & map it, it will be similar insurance costs to what you have now with increased economy. The grief of adding a turbo to your engine (insurance & fitting) really wouldn't not to be worth it

Sound advice, lots more power and good insurance.

Not to mention lots of ££££ for custom exhaust and maini, intercooler and pipe work. And a stand alone ECU.

Why did you get it if you arent happy with the performance?

hes probably a new driver and about 17-18

Fair point, however the performance of the 1.4's are rather good then for someone of that age, if thats all they can afford.

As above, the 1.9TDi PD105 (facelift) would have been a better option if you actually wanted abit of performance.

well tbh a put most of the money towards it plus my old corsa c but because my parents had a say in the matter and also insurance i couldn't really get anything bigger than a 1.4 but i must admit it is pretty nippy with a helping hand from V-power. still not enough power!

as i said insurance is an issue also money and also the running cost of petrol and i am also tryin to build a mk4 escort from scratch the ibiza is my daily!

one other issue i would like to point out is that the sarcastic comments some ppl use on forums like these usually do drive new members whose mibi first time on the forums away from it which is why i have never been a fan of online forums

but thanks for the help anyway

I understand your point, however that said. Why purchase a car, that you dont know simple things about like power output? Then ask after you have got it? Why did you purchase a new Ibiza 1.4 then think about how slow it is? Thing is, you basically bought the fastest, slow Ibiza you can get. Any bigger petrol, or ANY DIESEL would have given you better performance, better running costs, even the 1.8T's when driven nicely, can beat the mpg of the likes of my old 1.2 Ibiza.

So your question to us (none n00bs) seems abit daft, hense the replys.

However that being said, your still a member, like anyone else and if a post/reply upsets/annoys you, then report it via the report button.

Sorry but IMO a new driver should be restricted to a 1.0L for the first year or say 50hp, then a 1.2L or say 75hp for the second year and so on for the first 3 or 4 years of driving.

I'm fed up of hearing 17YO kids complaining that the car their mum bought for them and is insuring for them is too slow. They should be glad they ain't on a bloody push bike FFS.

There is a very good reason why insurance is expensive for a noobie driver and my insurance on my FR is under £200.

OH, and BTW it's a SPORTRIDER not a SPORT"s"RIDER. you should have read the sticker on the boot before you removed it and replaced it with an "R" badge.

I agree, my sister had a Nissan Micra 1.0l as her first then went to a 100ps Sportrider had totaled it within a month. Got a similar thing at work one of my colleges passed his test friday and has only ever driven a 1.2 Fiesta while having lessons and is now going to be able to jump straight in our Transit Connect (popper nutter bus) myself and another colege are a little concerned about this but it seems anyone won the books with a lisence can drive anything in the fleet:-o

Me, i started with a 1.6 Escort (spun in to a ditch) followed by a 1.4 Escort (died) then my sisters 1.2 Fiesta followed by a !.4 Ibiza Mum & Dad brought on my 18th which i had for 3 years and traded in for my FR. Mum was instant i carried out no mods to the car which would make me look chav or make it go faster. [B)]

Ive managed to collect 5 years NCB and insurance will be around £300 this year, hang it out with what you have and be grateful for it. Look upon this as picking up how to drive and building your skills for more power and getting some no claims to pay for it. How many of your friends are driving around in new cars anyway?

Love the reply. Hit a nerver? lol.

However at the tender age of 18, and 7 months with a full lincense, I had my FR, within a year of driving I was running 170bhp and 14.7 1/4 times. Ive never written off my Ibiza (had a few scraps with women drivers! oh and one bloke who couldnt see!? lol)

And with all this behind me, I say your 100% right. Limit new drivers to small cars/little power. I think 1.0L/50bhp is about harsh however, as that would limit the choice to either sheds, unsafe tin cans, or expensive new green cars. But a happy medium would suit. The funny thing is, I now drive daily a 1.4 TDCi Fiesta for work, its slow, very slow. So do I rag it to try and get any speed out of it? No. I sit back relax and laugh at the fact it gets over 60mpg EVERYWHERE! Saving me alot, even over my FR TDi!

People recormending a 1.8T..

The guy said he has problems with Insurance, and he has a '1.4' at the moment... Do you really think he's over 18? Do you really think he can offord £4,000+ insurnace?!

OP, adding a Turbo at your age will also kill you in insurance terms. So much to add all the mods' required.

I'd suggest a PD100? More pokey, and cheap to insure.

Ive got a pd100, ins5 and even tho its supposed to have 100, the guys at celtictuning told me that every pd100 they have dynoed has been putting out closer to 110 - 115.
So going on that alone they are ideal, and then obv you can re-map.
And on a plus note Diesel is nicer to drive in my opinion anyhow.

best thing you can do berzerker is keep what you have and gain ncb for a thew years then maybe only maybe another car will take your fancy at the end of the day nobodys an expert driver when they get there first car even if they think they are. i lowered and put wider wheels on my first car back then that gave me all the buzzs i needed it was a right rush back then and you will gain alot of experience from that trust me on that one i didnt have any accidents but a lot of close shaves and that was on a 75bhp 1.2 clio lol. be happy with what you have you do have a fair old bit of bhp so enjoy it. you dont want to end up in a coffin just yet. id like a superbike but at 23 i still feel to young.

Lol...the guy wants to strap a turbo from a modified Punto onto his petrol 1.4. Somehow I don't think insurance costs are his first concern ;)

I think you missed the point...There really wouldn't be much in the amount of insurance you would pay on a 1.8T and on a 1.4 with a Punto turbo retrofitted to it. If insurance is such an issue - why would you consider such a thing?
