screeching noise part 2...

I was going to take a pic of the secondary air pump location on my 1.8t (AUQ) engine but its difficult to see.
If you stand at the front of the car, look at your dipstick tube then look down and slightly left (your left/towards drivers side), at the very bottom there is a black pump, i will try and find a pic of one because you wouldnt know what it was without seeing one prior.
Try and see if thats where your noise is from.

Ok found this pic which is a view from underneath, is on a VW but is ok Pic the location is the same on my engine at least, the pump is the whole unit that has the bolts circled on. You could maybe try and get your undertray off and then start the car so you can get right at it to listen.

Noisy tensioner!!!! AHHH

Mine (150TDi) does the same and on tick over the power steering 'judders'. Looking at the aux belt tensioner which seems to have a lot of 'bounce'. But this condition is only on tickover. Does this point to the automatic tensioner being u/s??

Im having the same problem. Replaced tensioner which sorted it for a couple of months so put a new belt on which again kept it nice and quiet for a few months now its back to its noisy wobling self when its idleing!! Anyone that can help??

Its definately the tensioner because 1. If you take the auxillary belt off and start the car the noise goes 2. You can see it wobble like mad but increase the revs a bit and it tightens the belt giving no slip when you turn the steering wheel.

I dont want to be replacing tensioners every few months at £40 a go!!!!!

Not to throw a spanner in the works but removing the Auxilliary belt proves its either something driven by it or the belt itself, I would advise getting either a stethoscope (i know people don't tend to have them lying around, i don't i borrow one lol) or just a long screwdriver, touch it on the different components driven by the belt (obviously not the moving bits) and see where the noise is loudest. Have you tried a new belt?

Also seeing the tensioner moving like mad at idle could be the engine running slightly lumpy at idle which cars tend to do, as the revs pick up everything smooths out.

Oh and to add, while your belts off turn the components by hand, see if they sound noisy.

Is your tensioner towards the last quarter of movement? When I replaced the belt mine the tensioner was still torward the end of usable tension so after a couple of weeks it was back to its annoying self. My motor does seems to run smooth on tick over, pretty steady and not lumpy at all. Like you while the belt was off I tried all the other pulleys for smooth running and all were fine. Mine just seems as though the auxillary belt is just too long!!!

Gonna have a play with it friday afternoon and see if it is another pully causing the wobble if not im gonna price up new tensioner and belt from different manufacturer and see if that sorts it!!! Thanks for the advice.

Was the last one you fitted a genuine Seat part?

Had a simlilar problem with my 150bhp FR tdi. was only when I set off from cold and accelerated briskly I got a quick squeek/squeel/whistle then it went no matter if i pulled up turned the engine off and tried to do it again it wouldnt happed, drove me mad. Tried everything, luckily was still under waranty as the parts that spin inside the turbo were slightly bent and were catching on the housing. Hope this isnt the case for you and dont want to worry you but maybe something to have checked?

Not had chance to sort it out yet but its driving me mad with the belt slipping when im turning at low speeds plus im getting some strange looks off people cos it must sound quite annoying!!!

Update!!! Bought a new tensioner from Seat which turns out to be made by the same people as the last one i bought and its been quieter but still wobbling quite fast at idle. I can see its gonna get noisy again so can only think its one of the pulleys thats causing it. Its driving me mad. Anyone else had a similar problem?
