MK1 Leon FR Correction Detail

This car was booked in for a 3 day correction detail.

First up was to have some fun with the snow foam. The novelty never wears off with foaming anything in sight but I thought I would keep my target this car as I'm sure you will agree she needed it.

You can see the snow foam doing it's job nicely here with the dirt in the foam lying on the ground.

Time to rinse.

Much better.

I re-foamed the car again prior to washing but this time leaving the foam for extra lubricity while washing.

Next up was to start cleaning the often ignored areas. We started by soaking the egine bay with degreaser then agitating with a brush before leaving it to dwell for a few mins prior to rinsing off.

All shuts were then washed with APC, agitated and rinsed to leave clean surfaces.

I then went round the car soaking all lower trims with Autosmart Tardis to remove tar spots. As you can see the Tardis breaks the tar down nicely and just requires a wipe with a microfibre cloth to remove it. A good tip at this point is to bin the Microfibre cloth as the tar can be aggresive towards any surface if the cloth is reused.

Tardis was also used on the lights to remove glue residue. The car had been abroad in the summer and had glue residue left from the light deflectors. This is cleaned in the same way as removing tar. Spray on, leave for a moment then wipe away.

Tar spots were also found in the door shuts so these too were removed.

With the car now had it's basic wash it was time to move her inside still wet for the claying stage. Better leaving the car wet for extra lubricity during claying but make sure you still use a clay lub.

A healthy amount of contaminents were being removed.

Alarm bells ringing here as you can see overspray being lifted. This was a clear sign that this car had some paintwork in it's life. The overspray was coming from the OS wing.

With the car clayed and dried off it was time to start masking the trim ready for machine polishing.

I was amazed at the lack of defects on this car. I think it was down to the fact that the owner never washes it and prob a good job too as she was carrying a healthy amount of dirt when she arrived. We were getting reading in the 140 micron range throughout with the PTG and with the correction level needed I opted for a 3M Polishing Pad with 3M Extra Fine Compound.

With the car fully corrected now it was time to start adding the LSP. LSP of choice was just simply to give her a few coats of Zaino Z-2.

The rubbers and plastics were cleaned up with Poorboys trim restore.

The interior was hoovered and cleaned fully with the Tornador. This great machine is now avaiable in our shop. A great addition providing you have a suitable compressor.

The engine bay was dressed and protected with 303 Aerospace protectant.

The wiper blades were treated with 303 wiper treatment. Another great product that deserves more praise. Stops shuddering and smearing.

Some questions if I may

How many stages did you do on the paint work?
What products did you use on the wheels?
What LSPs?
What snow foam product? Looked like it broke down the dirt quite well and wash away easily with the pressure washer?

The reason the wheels are not in the write up is due to the fact that they are badly scuffed and the owner has them booked in to be refurbed next week. I mentioned to him that it would be better getting them done prior to the detail but both my diary and the company doing the refurb this was not possible so he is bringing them back to be dressed and protected once done.

The LSP was simply layered Zaino Z2.

The snowfoam we use is from autobrite super snow foam mixed with Zaino Z7 Car Wash Shampoo. Works great but the car was far from clean after rinsing.

looks great matey, would love to have mine done in the spring....**quick question** when you treat the alloys have you got any product or can you recommend any products that get rid of brake dust?..my wheels have been refurbed but it seems the dust is starting to bond

I prefer the properties of 3M Extra Fine Compound compared to Megs when doing light cutting. I wiould reach for megs products more with a DA. 3M pads and product are best when used with rotary.

Megs pads are great and I finished down with a Megs finishing pad with 3M Ultrfina.

I do prefer Megs pads all round tho apart from cutting.
