They did move their sheffield Seat branch down to the autoworld 'strip' in chesterfield earlier this year. However as said above they are big one, doesnt mean they cant go bust, but would be very bad, for alot of people if they did.

P.S IMHO they are crap.

They are crap and it is possible, used to work in chesterfield car showrooms.

Stratstone has just closed its Volvo and 'Collection' dealerships on derby road which have been around all my 24 years under different marques.

Autoworld are big, but this can be bad if they have a lot of brands doing bad they still need a fair amount of staff to keep them all going to meet manufacturer requirements, whereas smaller one off showrooms means less overheads. They left sheffield due to money troubles.

How did you hear of this out of curiosity?

Gilders are also cutting the fat moving all its efforts to one major complex at meadowhead, loosing the individual showrooms.

Tough times indeed :(

Autoworld in Chesterfield are crap! Several times I have rung up for parts and servicing and no one has a clue and can never find anything on the computer. I've given up on them now and use the local VAG dealer and GSF.

Thats the problem with their multi marque service centre, noone has specialist knowledge and therefore you don't get as much brand specific information

I bought my Leon from Autoworld, in fact from a salesman called Alex...coincidence?

/me looks at poster number 2 in this thread ;)

Seriously though, I had no problems with the sale, the car was fairly priced at that time and the sales guys were alright. I've never been back there for servicing or anything though as there are far more local places for me to go now I've got it so maybe I've just seen a different side to what you guys have.

Stratstone on Derby Road seemed to disappear over-night. It's all boarded up and looking very sorry at the moment. Someone at work had heard on the radio, Peak FM probably, that Autoworld and Carcraft were closing. Not heard anything since then though.

Autoworld are a bit crap, stuff is so expensive. Audi and VW's new place is awasome, with the touring car's etc. The workshop it massive aswell.

So has VW. Gilder have relocated their Sheffield and Chesterfield sites to a mega site at meadowhead just south of sheffield and north of chesterfield!

Word is its already up **** creek.

I'm happy to report that the last line of your post is not quite the case. Fortunately the new site at Meadowhead is doing extremely well. It's worth a visit if you get chance at any point.

My advice though would be to stick with SEAT; visit us at - Gilder SEAT, Middlewood Road, Hillsborough, Sheffield, S6 1TF - instead ;)

 Love it. The SEAT's away for the winter now so hopefully it won't be needing any parts.

I have since persuaded a friend have an audi A3 from your meadowhead centre. Have to say the VW garage was great, but some of the audi guys seemed a bit 'up themselves'.
