On the latter PD engines (A5 chassis) the 1.9 is fitted with a KKK and the 2.0 is a Garrett, they are both pants and last no time at all before coming noisy or failing completely. Both utter garbage and built by a good manufacturer but built to the cheapest spec as possible.

bit harsh would everyone not say! depend on what chassis ur on about, A5 chassis as in the Audi A5? wtf? lol

6L ftw

i know exactually what you mean, all that torque kicking in with very few revs, love it!

you should try and do what im getting done in a few months times, the hybrid process will be epic i think for my car, it'll finally have the power it deserves to have! ill keep yourself updated when i get it done ;)

Not counting the seat PD130's here. The Pd 130 turbo is the VA and PD150 Turbos are VB, I have both! the VB's have bigger turbines/compressor wheels I am led to believe the VA's can be hybridezed the same as a VB as the housings can be machined the same.

Ask the turbo machinist if he will take a VA or a VB as exchange and the argument is over!

Devonmikeyboy talks pap im sorry to say, dont believe everything you read dude

He's right actually, the GT1749VB is off the PD150 units and are as rare as hens teeth 2nd hand. However if Turbo Dynamics will rework a GT1749VA to the same spec as a reworked GT1749VB as said above, you're onto a winner as there's always plenty of those kicking around ebay.

You can tell which turbo is which as the numbers are stamped on the housing.

Speaking from a Skoda point of view in which I have a little knowledge the Fabia vRS is always fitted with a KKK rather than a Garrett. The Octavia with the same engine will always have the Garrett unit. The turbos themselves arent directly interchangeable although its not much work to mod one to fit (requires the rotation of the housing).

I figured KKK made the ones for the Fabia, Garrett made the ones for the Octavia as the fitments are different.

i'd been led to assume that a turbo from a PD160 would bolt straight on replacing a turbo on a PD130, but this reads different

I didn't say that ...... however you might want to check with Turbo Dynamics before doing anything rash :) I'm sure i asked them the same question and they said they wouldn't but I would ask again.

Yes they do, its a differnt class and size to the A5. And I change alot of 3C Passat and MK5 Golf turbos as I work at a VW main dealer poop indeed.

I work for the ONLY AUDI DEALER in NORTHERN IRELAND as a Technician  and i cant fault the 1.9tdi, in the years ive been there, not one 1.9tdi has "pooped" its self, one of the most realible engines in the vag group hence why i bought my 130 sport and i think everyone will agree that this as a daily driver is a good engined car, noisy yes but it isnt a refined common rail.

The 2.0tdi in the A3 (bkd) (mk 5 golf) has turbo problems, had to change a few but its the only model of engine thats needed it since 2004
