i had to post on this thread cause its getting a little silly now , no one is taking in what people have put , if you post somewhere you will get answers to your questions , there are a lot of guys who post on here who have a lot of knowledge about remaps ins and outs.

if your battery is disconected your map will not dissapear it is still there hard written to a chip.
on the mk1 cupras we had to disconect the battery to do a throttle body alignment and also to clear the remaps adaptation so get the car running smoother again.

the only way your map has dissapeared is if the dealer has reflashed your ecu or changed the whole ecu.

and no one said your reflash vanish if you disconnect your battery, revo at least go back to stock mode (you have the reflash but the values revert to 0 0 0 ) so you have stock power

The someone who you know who does the Revo remaps hasn't a clue what he is talking about.
Rest it to 0,0,0 on timing, boost & fuel I have never heard of such a load of bull in all my time.

The dealers have done a software update which will over write the software which was in the vehicle
it's not a case of resetting anything like you friend who knows nothing said.

This isn't what we have said - We said it may be reset back to 0-0-0 if the battery had been disconnected for a while. But if the dealer has over written it then it would be running Seat software, but if they have only disconnected the battery then it will still be a Revo remap just with standard 0-0-0 settings...

This is why you need to find out if it has been updated to Seat software as it could save you money from this guy charging you £125 for doing very little!

Ok thanks, I'm assuming that VAG-COM could do this? If so then I'll have a look in the VC section and see if any kind soul will check the SW version for me. Do you happen to know what the updated version will be? or will it be dated?

Thanks

/dev/null,

Mate - I sympathise with you on this problem, I really do, but but as everyone keeps saying (and please listen to them as they are totally correct) there is nothing you can do if a dealership reflash has removed your remap :-

1 - A dealership reflash of your ECU will erase/remove/wipe/kill/get rid of any remap that is loaded into your ECU whether Jabba, Revo, AMD or the mob you used (and I say mob as the replies you have quoted and their website do not read as if written by people with professional attitudes). All uploaded remaps are erased on a dealership reflash of the ECU.

2 - If you remove the battery, an EEPROM (as found in the ECU) will not erase and the remap will still be there. (follow this link for definition of EEPROM - http://www.tech-faq.com/eeprom.shtml). All that will revert to standard are adaptation levels. Nothing more. You have to actually overwrite the memory to erase it. Adaptation levels (and only adaptation levels) are held on a different part of the ECU that is temporary memory which requires power to keep it - and when you lose these settings, the ECU simply reverts to basic, base level settings whilst it rebuilds them as it learns your driving style, conditions etc.

When a reflash is done, it overwrites the entire EEPROM to ensure that no rogue software or harmful code exists, hence you overwrite the remap with blank spaces and the new code from the dealership. This way (and for good reason) they know 100% that the ECU is completely as they intended with no outside influences to make the car run anything other than as designed by the Seat programmers and designers.

This done, it is not unreasonable for Revo or any other remapper to charge for another remap as its hardly their fault.

Don't read me wrong here though - I'm not having a go at you mate, just trying to explain why you might be where you are with this problem so that you understand why people (the dealership and remapper) are responding as they are to you.

I hope you get it sorted - see it as a chance to get a different remap from a more professional outfit!

Hi,
Thanks - I do understand that. My dilemma is that I don't know for sure whether the map has been overwritten of whether just reverted due to battery connection. So, I don't want to be paying a fortune when all it needs is a bit of tweaking again.
Yes, it's not the remappers problem if the map has been wiped by the dealership however as this is seemingly a common occurrence then I have an issue with them wanting so much for something I have already paid for.

Unfortunately in the current climate I can't justify spending £400-£500+ on a new map.

Looks like I'm stuck with it then - lesson learnt the hard way.

well they should do it for a small fee and if they dont do it for a small fee you can go in any UK forum telling your story i think that would make them rethink about things a little bit...

thats why i went with revo besides i know the guy, i know the policies they have and they cover you in this event....

Yes, I think maybe when things pick up a little after christmas I might try and save up for a Revo. Thing is, I could have this guy re-do it for the price asked and then 6 months later it goes into the dealers, same thing and another £175 gone. After seeing the attitude they have had, I am certainly not going back to them with my custom anyway.

Just got a right snotty email off the guy - I emailed asking if he would be able to check whether it was wiped or reset and he replied:

I'm totally fed up with telling you what has happened so you are better of taking this vehicle to this so called
friend who you know that clearly knows much more than me.

So - bollocks to them - I definitely will not be giving them any more custom and given the shitty attitude they have shown, I would urge anybody else to stay well clear! Yes, it might not be their problem but having an attitude like that is no way to treat customers, past, present or future!

to add to what s3 akr wrote;

even if your values have reset to 0-0-0 for whatever reason, the car would still drive the same way as it did when you first pulled off after having the map put on.
if yours seems to have lost power, then the only logical reason for this is the map has been overwritten by a stock seat map. there is no chance of any sort of 'tweaking'.
no help to you, i know, but others may benefit from your experience.

I think you have found the answers you need mate! This lot are a joke and I wouldn't give them a single penny more. You can get Revo, Custom Code, Jabba, AMD and others with a professional outfit that know much more than those jokers.

Take a deep breath, chalk it up to experience and get saving for a proper remap! You know its the right thing to do.

Yes, that's what I'll be doing. They seemed genuine enough at the time but it's obvious now they're just cowboys! I just feel sorry for anyone else falling into the same trap!
