Poor Poor fuel consumption

Anyone see that renault on topgear last week? a decent service helped that thing loads.

Hmmm, the service we all pay way over the odds for is not the same I'm affraid.......!

We pay £120+ for a oil and filter change and for them to look over our cars to find out what else they can persuade us needs doing, thats it, total rip off. My cars have never been better for a service, and neither is my pocket!

I love my car, only problem i want with it are alloy wheels but you cant get any to fit 14" skinny fit tyres. I also want fog lights, apart from that i love my car :D

Change the tyres too then.

I've often thought why don't people get Bluemotion Polo's and Ecomotive's, then just stick different wheels on and a remap and still pay no road tax! Plus I think the Polo Bluemotion looks awesome with its smooth front grille!

ive get about 300 a tank out of my 1.2, even if im careful it hardly makes any difference :(

does anybody else get this with the 1.2?

I do, not matter what you do, you still get the same,

the wierd thing is that i was getting 450, went for a services and it had slowly dropped to 300!

and that is on an 08 car!

I normally get about 440 from a tank in mine I also have an Ibiza FR 1.9 TDI, although I do a fair bit of motorway driving.
I have been trying VPower but am finding that the econemy is no better, has anyone else tried VPower and noticed any difference???

ive been running Vpower sometime now. I havnt actually noticed a difference now tbh. i wont be reverting back to anything less though, unless theres a HUGE difference in price as surely its better quality derv?

Like drinking tap water or bottled water, no difference just peice of mind.

i do mixture of in town and motorway/dual-carriage driving. just thought i'd let you know that in my old mk3 1.4 i used to do a max of 280 to the tank...now in my FR TDi around London i can do nearly 400 driving normally (but should do a little more). with a few drags here and there i still see around 340 miles

my mpg seems to be improving now, i make a point in checking my tire pressures all the time and it seeems to of made a difference. I am now seeing approx 90 - 100 miles from £10 which is about 44mpg which is pretty good for running about town and stuff, when on motorway few weeks bak i was getting about 49 - 51

Check your air filter, if that is dirty then it will restrict air flow, and your engine will over fuel. Ie it will suck in more fuel, or have big fuel;air ratio.

I find common items can be overlooked at services, i bought a p reg corsa, which had a full main dealer history, had 80k, yet the spark plugs looked like the originals!

Some garages plug them in and thats it if they find no faults, and dont do the traditional checks.

Id check air filter, and maybe get a good diesel fuel additive to give everything a good clean out. Also im not familiar with diesels, but if they have vacuum hoses etc give them a good check.

is it safe to use like water on ur induction kit, wont it ruin it, how would i go about cleaning it?

Take it off the car and run water through it from the inside to the outside. (If you have a high pressure AIR line then you can blow particles off it first.) It won't damage the filter as its only cotton or paper anyway. You will have to let it dry before applying some filter oil (not too much) and reattaching it to the car. You will be surprised at how much dirt comes off it ;) (shows its doing its job) expecially if you have a cold air feed going striaght to it...
