Can't decide which model to go for

As some of you may know I'm looking at chopping in the Mk3 Cupra for a Mk4 TDI.

There are a few Sportriders kicking around with delivery mileage for less money than slightly older FR's with around 6,000 miles on the clock which are around £500 more.

Help me out guys. Which is the better buy?

...and then I've still got the new shape Fabia to look at

I would say a pd100 Sportrider would be a better bet in my eyes

I say haggle the difference from a dealer saying "well I dont really need the FR" im sure they will want to shift that more, as its older.

I just feel if you went from a MK3 Cupra to the sportrider, your stepping down abit, not just in power but things like brakes etc. Its a heavy car, and the bigger brakes on the FR (which imho still standard are poor) will do you better to stop!

If the FR was slightly more expensive and still had delivery mileage I would go for that as I would like the extra power and 6 speed box, but it's tempting to go for the newer car and the sportrider does have cruise....I'm really not getting any further on this

Dont worry about the cruise being a factor, that can always be added at a later date. I would go with similar ideas to T.Spark, if you can wangle the FR at the same, or better price, then go for that definately.

As Andy has said, dont let cruise be the issues, its a easy install, and infact id use the fact the FR hasnt got it, to try and get more money off it!

lol...and I thought I was a hard bargainer. C*upers St Albans seem to have several FR's and sportriders to choose from so I'll give them a call. If you were a cash buyer, what would you expect to pay for £9,500 car at the moment?

Cruise isn't a dealbreaker as it will be mainly Sue's car and she doesn't like it, although I will sometimes drive it and I do use it.

why everyone saying you can add cruise there's a current thread running where techie from Liverppol can do it for a good price but unless you happen to live there can't be done or if can cost a bomb! Personally unless you are used to cruise don't see what the big deal is I have never had it so can't miss it are you the same. Anyways other than that what do you want form the car really do the extra bits on the FR matter to you or not or is it more about the age do you intent to sell on in a few years then?

Ideally I want a pre-reg car with delivery mileage with 130 ps, cruise control, in zenith grey with a screen price of less that 9k. But unfortunately that doesn't exist.

Not sure about how long we would keep it for. I do like the look of the Mk5 SC but the diesel isn't due out until the summer so perhaps in 12 months time I will part-ex it for one of them.

Perhaps the sportrider with delivery mileage is a better option then as the difference will easily cover a remap.

Haha, I walked into my sear garage and bought two brand new FR's back in 05, got loads thrown in as the garage gave me a offer, and right infront of the sales guy, I rang two other garage's who bettered it, and so on, until I couldnt be arsed anymore Sales guy wasnt impressed, but hey

TBH mate, its a buyers market, they NEED money, end of year and all that jazz. I say go for the FR, haggle like mad, if you aint happy, ring another seat garage up like I did (maybe not infront of the sales rep!) and see what they can offer over the phone, ud be surprised.

Thats sums it up You have never had it, so dont know how useful it is However the mother has it on her Golf Plus and never uses it, as it scared her

Its safed me from points atleast twice. Worth it.

I'd go for the Sportrider personally - the PD100 still drives really well - obviously it's not as quick to the FR, but I rarely miss the extra power of the FR that much. Also, the equipment level of the Sportrider is excellent

The only drawback of the Sportrider is that it hasn't got a trip computer

I didn't realise that...and that is something that I would miss, but perhaps not as much as cruise control.

Its making me confused for you too! and i'm not even the one wanting to buy it! lol Give them both a road test mate and see if thats helps clinch it for you. As said above, its a buyers market so they should be able to do a lot for you and give you a great deal.

I've just been on the phone to a dealer offering them my car + £5,500 for a 57 plate FR up for £9995.
