mfd3 question again!

Like the look of the Pioneer HU, being as i've not got the large mfd i'm liking the added bonus of a fully integrated bluetooth phone & its voice activated too.

For an extra £30 you can add full Ipod connectivity, so you wouldn't need the hard drive option, aslong as you have an Ipod that is.

I'm not that technically minded when it comes to ICE installations, so if anyone can answer a couple of questions:

The Seat MFD3 is plug & play, is the Pioneer that simple too, or would i need to change any wiring?

Would the steering wheel controls still work when an aftermarket HU is fitted?

Should be pretty much plug and play. You will prob need an extra module to make the steering wheel controls to work on the HU. Have a search on the forum as a few of the guys here have already done it before.

p.s. I have an Alpine HU on mines but don't have the steering wheel controls.

Have seen some very good Youtube videos too - need to make sure is has Firmware 2.0, this upgrade has improved the bootup time by 35%.

With the correct adaptor the steering wheel controls will work, just not exactly sure which one it is - keep seeing different ones suggested.
On the Pioneer site it lists : CA-R-PI.221 V3 steering interface.

go mfd3.
bigger screen, better navigation (barring postcodes), genuine plug and play, oem look, and you will get your money back(ish) when/if you want to sell it if you buy from someone like tommy.

You do take a chance i guess but ive had no issues apart from asking for a code a few times (im too lazy to rewire it!) The VW units are slighty cheaper (I think) and do have an SD slot all you get is a VW spash screen difference...
An aftermarket one will never (imo) be quiite as good as an OEM one as they have to be compatible with almost any car around not just the Leon...

i do agree that an oem unit makes more sense! but spending that amount of money. only to know that if it goes wrong there aint much you can do about it worrys me! wouldnt need anythin else just the new facia for the unit and then its plug and play yeah?
