Hi,

Ive got a cupra and am interested in upgrading the brakes. Ive always wanted the brembos from the Cupra R but i believe these are quite pricey. I have heard the TT brakes a straight swap. Is this true? and are they better than the Cupra R ones.

What brake conversions have you guys got and what type of price range am i looking at?

Cheers guys :)

What size disks do you currently have? 288mm or 312mm? Normally the petrol cupra and FR has the 312mm and the TDI's 288. However some some people have said this is not a fixed rule.

If you have the 288mm disks then obviously upgrade to 312mm for the cheapest option. If you already have 312mm then things will get more expensive.

Check THIS out stage 1 to 5 , just depends on how deep your pockets are. Also bager 5 in the sponsors section is very good and can throw a set-up together for you if you tell bill what your after.

Why bother. Do you use the car for track days or anything else other than normal everyday driving?
If not don't waste your money on upgrades etc and fancy brake pads. OEM will do just fine.
I just got new OEM discs and pads all round. Works out way cheaper

I've done both front and rear I'm not running a remapped car but personally I like to know that I've got some performance in reserve from my brakes just in case I need it.

Which is great, but unless you're trashing the car on a track or doing illegal speeds and over braking on the road you wont be over heating your brakes.

If the OEM brakes aren't over hearted and thus not suffering fade then I believe the tires will give way long before the brakes do.

because fitting better pads to oem calipers and discs makes a huge difference in braking even at normal temps

i wouldnt change calipers or discs until 280bhp+... but ferrodo ds2500 pads made a big difference. i guess alot of this is driving style but stronger braking can never be a bad thing.

i know it seems like a pointless expense, i like to know that my brakes are going to stop me and now and again on the roads they seem like they are not doing that. yeh they are great a low speeds but when i wanna stop from high speeds they just dont feel like they are doing enough.

I do a lot of miles late at night at 1-2AM after work. So at 1-2AM in the morning the roads are quiet and i like to take the car for a spin on the way home which takes me an hour.

At the same time i am quite new to all this because my last car was pointless pushing the money into performance so all my money went on music.

That sounds reasonable enough alright to upgrade your front pads. I'd say your on 312mm discs so mo other upgrades really needed.
Just be careful. It'll start with brakes and will be hard to stop putting money into these cars!
I'm off to trawl eBay again

yeah but a completely unnecessary huge extra expense for normal driving use

lol

and this is a forum where people frequently mod their car, make it faster, and then need brakes more often... better brakes help. Std pads feel at best wooden.. one high speed stop they will manage, two they dont. (in succession)

No. Standard brakes feel more than fine.

Making a car faster and actually driving them that much faster is another thing.
I bet lots make their cars faster but drive them just the same as before and where a 1.4 or 1 liter would do just as good.
Suppose its down to how hard the person drives the car above what the car will take as standard.

OK, thats cool, so really i just need pads. What are good pads these days and let off the least amount of brake dust? as i cant stand cleaning the car then driving down the shops finding brake dust all over the wheels.

yep we spend fortunes on making them handle better, go faster but drive them as slowly as poss:happy::rolleyes:

cant believe your actually arguing the case for less braking power.

Some do. Look at the thread on the guy who doesnt want to drive his Cupra R above 2.5k rpm.

Im not arguing it just saying that it will cost a lot more for something that is not necessary.
I got new OEM front and back discs and pads for £165
Ferodo pads alone will cost 80% of that
We aint all that rich.

Just putting another opinion across other than yes spend a fortune and upgrade to this and upgrade to that

thanks, i appreciate you not wanting people to spend a fortune. Im not loaded by any means but at the same time my money is spent on the car. Plus one of my mates has just bought a cupra and now its time to be different. lol.

With my mate having one the same colour as mine now its lethal because we always want to make ours different.

Ha.
Well i guess new wheels and pink "accessories" in your car can only make it obviously different.

Otherwise nice touches like s2000 or civic aerial, fabia rear wiper, cupra badge (from Ibiza) on your front grill, retrofit aero flat wipers, LCR splitter are best and cheapest ways to make it stand out a bit more.

if std fine for you I'm happy for you.
std pads when used hard are rubbish.

If driving slowly is your thing, why buy a cupra? a lesser model would have gotten from a to b just as well given that rational.
