Cambelt Change TDI130PD

Hi

My 2003 TDI Sport 130PD has just passed its 5th birthday so I called a local independant SEAT garage to get it booked in for a cambelt change. I had thought it was due at 5 years or 60k miles (car has done 56k) but the chap there told me it was 4 years or 60k miles. I asked the price for the work and was told around £400 depending on the engine number.

Can anyone shed some light on when the cambelt needs to be changed and a realistic price? Also what bits get changed on the TDI engine?

Cheers :)

Funnily enough I spoke to a VAG Specialist about this yesterday too!

The chap said early Mk4 ibiza would be 4 years and 60k miles but the 04 on can be 5 years as the changed the material the belts were made of.

the quote I got was £380 inc VAT parts and fitting.

Parts wise the guy said it was all the belts and tensioners and the water pump - apparently the water pump has a plastic impeller that can break down.

Cheers

Thanks for your quick replies!

I'm a bit miffed with myself that I didn't check when it needs to be changed - I suppose I've risked a catastrophic failure this year without even knowing it. I'm also suprised that the SEAT garage I use didn't flag it up when the car was serviced

400 quid is more than I bargained for but I think it has to be done if I want to sell the car next year - I guess no-one in their right mind would buy it without a new cambelt.

Cheers

Dont know where you are based my friend but i'm in the same boat car on a 54 and done 57 so cambelt needed here to, however my local stealer will do a 60K service and a cambelt for £400 asked for a breakdown and was told £200 for each all in!

My stealership has just gone bust!

But they had quoted £600 just for the cambelt.

£400 for the cambelt is not a lot. My other half has a Clio Sport 172 and the cambelt on that is between 600 and 800 quid!

Cambelt (incl tensioners and water pump) and full service (505.01 oil remember!) shouldn't come to far above £400 if you go to an independant.

To be fair I've had the car 5 years from new and it has barely put a foot wrong so I should treat it to a new cambelt and show it some lurve

I had a few headlamps replaced in the first year under warranty and since then it has only cost me £70 (excluding servicing) to get a twisted suspension spring put right. I'm wondering if SEAT is the premium brand within the VAG?

i was quoted about 150.00 for parts including vat & metal impellar etc... instead of the plastic crap.

I should imagine if you go to a good garage it should cost about the same for fitting. 3-4 hours labour maybe.

if you have the pump diesel engine mate your cambelt is easy to do take you roughly 2hours i do prob 3-4 ov these belts a day at work they simple the twin cam ones are the harder ones to do. Like previous threads vw recomend cambelt change every 4 yrs 60k up to 80k

Had mine done at a main dealer in stoke last week for £400 incl vat for a 20000 mile service cambelt/tensioner.
So dealers must be able to do deals. It was marked up on the service board at £350/cambelt and £165 for a 20,000 service but both done for a deal..
So ask, they can`t afford to turn away business in the current climate.........
