Well, we've spent today with the assumption that the correct flywheel will go with my new Sachs AGG Clutch kit to solve the problem.

Tonight, however, I measured the friction plates.

Sachs 210mm AGG clutch - (new) - for a 21mm gearbox input shaft.

and the friction plate that's been on my car - it's for a 19mm gearbox input shaft. :censored:

20.5 centre bush doesn't sound right. I'll measure my input shaft tonight - (rather than the max bore of the pressure plate) - and count splines.

Cheers Fl@pper - really appreciate your help.

I got 19 and a bit mm from putting my digital vernier in the friction plate bore. This might not be maximum, so I'd best measure the input shaft.

Frustratingly, there isn't room in the bellhousing to get my digital vernier in to measure the input shaft. I've just spent an hour or so f-ing about with different items trying to get an accurate measurement.

Dia of my input shaft is near as damnit 19.6mm. Allowing for the fact that the splines on the shaft are flat topped, I suppose a 20.5mm bored friction plate would go on. Definitely 24 splines too.

There's no way the friction plate I took off is 20.5 mm though.

Its a good job you have another motor to use, sounds an absolute nightmare.

I never want to return to the days of family relying on one car (in a village). The problems are 4 times as bad when that one car goes down.

I'm also glad I had the car recovered home, rather than dumping it with a garage. This would have cost big bucks for someone else to sort and I would have been powerless to question.

Flywheel turned up by courier.

Opened the package - and it's very clearly stamped VW Part no. 027105273D

(Ebay advert said VW Part no. 027105271RX )

I'm trying to find out what 027 105 273D is from....
