im selling my mk3 cupra as i want a leon fr+ tdi but was made a decent offer of £3500 cash and px his car. It needs a good clean and detail and one of the wheel bearings gone its n/s but dont know if its from the front or rear until i get it up on the ramps at work to give it a once over.
Can anyone tell me the timing belt intervals also im probs just going to do it anyways like lol but its only supposed to be a run around until i find a leon but ive already planned on lowering it and painting the wheels gloss black.

Can anyone tell me why it has the swirl type alloys, most mk2's ive seen have the other 5 spoke wheels on, is there any other differences in the cars?

Anyways this is what ive had to leave for it tho

I don't think there's any difference between cars with the swirly alloy and the more usual 5 spoke, like I have.

Mk3 looks very nice!

Cambelt is 60k IIRC.

Ah rite well for the cost ill put one on :) must say the handling of the mk2 is better than my mk3 and still has all the electrics and trip computer which i didn't think it would have, he said sometimes the drivers window doesnt go up on its own and you need to help it alittle window regulators common? i know my mk3 one fooked up was £100 for parts because of the global closing.

I think the swirls are a hangover from the "proper" GTI's, later 8v Cupra Sport models had more regular 5 spokes - though worth noting thatg there were actually a couple of different styles, and it seems to depend on the colour of the car which type of 5 spoke wheels you got. Most colours got the "flat faced" 5 spokes whice have a small detent running the length of the spoke, as shown in AlpineWhite's signature. A few colours - Forest Green, and I think possibly also Volcano Red - got a different 5 spoke alloy, altogether more contoured and more commonly found on Cordoba's (1.6 SX's) and Toledo's (not sure which models).

Or then again, it might just have been a case of whatever they had knocking about in the factory that day...

Oh, and yes, a window regulator is not an uncommon failure. The wires start to fray and get tangled up in the mechanism. Euro Car Parts do a "pattern" part, though I'm told that the OE motor won't bolt up to that. The original dealer part comes as an assembly complete with motor. Just had one done myself and was around £100 for the assembly according to the invoice...

Yh I need to buy a new window regulator, they are £75 from VW and if you can fit a cam belt you wil have that fitted in about 10 mins lol..

Four 10mm bolts is all that holds the reg to the door...

runs off the drive belt instead of the cam but give it a spin and check it anyway while it's open

if you do need one get the one 'with' the housing - only 3 bolts and an o-ring to change as the actual pump bolts snap like butter usually ending up needing one anyway

not much more cost wise

give the pas pump a go over and clean out as they pick up crap off the road and wrecks the shaft seals/bearing and makes em noisy

cambelt is every 40k now. Used to be 60k but as you've probably heard they have a tendancy to snap.

Ah man, mine is over due now then!
All my belts have become a bit noisy since the weather changed, is that an ominous sign?
Hard to do for a novice??

I would get it done tbh. Mine hadnt even done 40k but the first time the tensioner hadnt been changed :)blink:) and when I got it done the belt was really loose and flapping about and it was hitting the cover. My mechanic told me I was lucky it hadnt broken. :headhurt:
