Hi guys,

little bit a damper...atually quite a big one.

After inspecting the BBS rims I bought a little better, I came to the conclusion that the holes are for m14 bolts, whereas the Cupra uses M12 bolts.

Is there any way I can still use these rims, or have a made a horrible mistake?

btw, drilling out my hubs to match m14 will be difficult, because I already redrilled my front brakes from 5x100 to 4x100 which leaves no space to make m14 holes...

fuc me...

this is really pissing me off.

I already stripped one of the paint to polish it.

Now I am gonna have to finish them to even be able to sell them. So a lot of work for something I can't even use.

What are hub adapters?
You mean like spacers that the rim bolts to with m14 and then goes to the hub with m12?
does that even exist?

i think golf mk2 and 4 stud mk3 have the same size thread, with a 17mm head but different 'lip' for want of a better term. this is according to my mcguard locking wheel bolt guide. i thought they were all the same tbh.

i had porsche 928 rims on my golf rallye then fitted them to my mk3 and used m12 and m14 and gave no isseues as the bit the bolt actually sits in is the same for both. VW has anyway.

ok just had a little thought...

The problem I will have when fitting these rims now, is that room is look between the M14 hole, and the actual M12 bolts.

What if I was to buy thick washers or rivets (think thats what you call them) something like the ones between the DP bolts to turbo, that fit over M12 but inside M14?
That would help clear up the extra room in the bolt holes of the rims correct?

cheers

Just a thought - would it be possible to get M14 Wheel bolts turned down and threaded to M12?

Leave a section of M14 thickness to fit in the wheel holes, but not long enough to touch the disc?

My concern would be that the machining could weaken the bolts....

DPJ...good point there actually...

I could fit a M14 bolt through the rim and mark off exactly where it exits the rim, so where it will enter the hub...then get them turned down to m12 from there.

It seem to me that the bolts will retain their strength as M12 bolts do for us now too. Plus, the rim also rests/takes a lot of force on the hub it sits on...

actually I probalby don't mean hub, but the inner diameter of the rim which sits on the heart of the hub if you like (again not sure what its called)

just thought i have a bag of b/n inserts that are for compomotive wheels and the like which actually press into the alloy where the bolt goes through with the 'cup' section in. they are available in all sizes, maybe you could fit or modify these?

yeah something like that!

Ok question, if I wanna order from them, I need to say that the hole is M14 but I need M12 screws. However, I also need 'conical' bolts...if thats the word?
For the regular cupra wheels we use non-conical bolts which means they are rounded where they sit inside the rim. But these BBS require flat ones (in Dutch this is called conical)

can anyone confirm what its called in English so I place an order with them? thanx

yea conical will do, i think iirc vauxhall use conical and are m12 pattern with 17mm head. which would save you some cash.

I meant more that the heat from turning the bolts down could weaken the bolts.

could always re-temper em but personally was gonna suggest 2 mm spacers/sleeves but with all the holes etc involved i reckon clarkey has the best idea

A stud conversion with shims (For want of a better term) might do the trick.

that's the way to go

maybe even an M12-M14 stud and leave wheels as they are ?

ok sorry...but don;t understand what re-temper is? And what is shims?

not getting what you saying I should do.

What about the link DPJ posted? is that not a good option?

Had a look on wikipedia and shim came up as tapering a piece of material.

so if i understand correctly you're saying what DPJ said earlier, of machining part of the bolt from m14 to m12, where it will enter the hub?

but why not opt for the pieces in the link, which make the M14 holes in the rims fit m12 bolts? surely that would be better than tampering with the actual bolts, or not?
