I bought myself one of those fake alarm flashing LEDs and I'm not to sure how to install it

There are 2 wires which I must wire one up to a constant 12v and the other wire to something else so it only flashes when the car is off

Has anyone ever wired one up before?? I'm stuck!!

I'd sort of expect it to be self-contained, LED and flasher in one package. Where did you get it from, and are there any instructions with it or on a website?

You need a constant live and an ignition live.

If you're mounting it on the dash, the bestplace for the wires will be the feeds to the radio.

When the ignition is off the constant live feed will cause the light to flash, turn on the ignition and that feed will counter the constant feed and switch it off.

I've fitted them before, very easy to do, just make sure you wire it the right way round.

I tried wiring it from the radio but I must have been using the wrong leads as it didn't work
I'll give the constant live and the ignition live a try tomorrow, thanks!!

No it doesn't have an alarm, but I won't be spending stupid amounts of money on one, this LED which was £3 on ebay will probably do the trick of making thieves change their mind for the minute :)

The ignition switch must be connected to ground in the off state, making a circuit through the LED. When the ignition is live, both sides of the LED see the same voltage so it goes out.

Yep I think that's how you wire it up, I'll give it a go tomorrow :)

Is it safe/suitable to tap into the stereo wires to run other things? I'd like to hook up my cb radio that's sitting in the cupboard soon, but don't know where abouts to sire it other than the stereo connections
