Hey,

Have been looking at the options for a bit now between the fr and cupra. Obviusly the cupra is working out to more to buy no surprise there for around £7000-7500 with 177 bhp and 180 lbft. The Fr is £5500-6000 for a good one but only 147 bhp and 167 lbft.

When the fr is remapped it reaches 180bhp and similar torque so basically you have an fr with the power of a cupra. Remap a cupra with revo for example and your getting 210bhp and 240 lbft. What i dont get is engine wise what is seperating the two models? Why doesnt an fr remapped work out to the same as a remapped cupra?

I have searched and found nothing. If this has been asked before im sorry but as i will be getting one of these soon i was interested to see.

Thanks

Cupra has a front mounted intercooler and better intake system, plus some other different engine parts. You also get the far superior brakes, nicer wheels, stiffer suspension, lower ride height, slightly wider track, nicer interior, better looking exhaust, better bumpers and other bits I can't remember right now..

The FR's suspension is way too harsh... Cant even imagine what the Cupra's is like then - if its stiffer!!!

The Cupra does have more torque, i think it said they both have the same torque output on the SEAT website but its a typo. Similarly the weights of the petrol and diesel Cupras got mixed around on the website.

Torque is linked to BHP and RPM so the torque values wouldn't be the same if the Cupra has 30 more BHP, considering the similarities between these engines.

Actually the bhp and rpm's are linked to the torque ;) hehe, just jesting :)

If I had the choice of FR & Cupra models today, id pick a Cupra.

I had the choise and test drove both (petrol only as the car will only ever do 5-7k per year), I found the extra power was nice along with the brakes but the ride was soooooooooo hard. FR for me then I thought :D
