What is the difference between Carries & Calipers?
I was beginning to think they was the same thing, but then a statement does me over.
I have the red brembo things but they're not brembo. Seat offered as an option the carriers/calipers to be red if wanted.

Hub - carrier - caliper in that order 
Caliper bolts to the carrier which in turn bolts to the hub.
Caliper bolts to the carrier which in turn bolts to the hub.
Just a quickie. This upgrade looks like what my FR+TDI will be having in 12 months time after warranty expires, but I have a question. By upgrading the fronts only, isnt the brake bias going to be more on the front? I know the ABS will stop the front locking prematurely but surely a similar percantage in increased efficiency will be required for the rear to maintain brake balance?
Also, what about Octavia VRS rear vents/calipers (same as LCR??) for the rear, worth the work & cost?

The 312mm carrier is a OE VAG part that is used on the petrol cupra mk1, S3, golf anniversary and others. To fit is relatively simple you need to remove the caliper tie it up to the suspension to avoid straining a brake line. Then unbolt the 288mm carrier, unbolt the old disc put new 312mm disc on, then fit the new 312mm carrier and add the caliper and pads. Stand back admire and then do the other side.
thanks cordoba lad, do you know which 312mm disc would be the best to fit, my father in law has a 52 plate 190 bhp TT which has vented and grooved discs on front as standard do you know if these would fit? i know you said S3, golf anniversary and others i cant really say that ive seen them so dont know if they are the same as my father in laws or not?

That quick fitting guide made the assumption that you have 288mm front discs already. All the 312mm discs are vented, if you want uprated ones then go for cross drilled, or grooved or drilled and grooved the choice is yours in that sense just be prepared to pay more for drilled or grooved. Can't remember if TT 180's have 288mm or 312mm, TT 225 definitely does have 312mm. Essentially the 312mm discs are all the same fitment (i'm sure someone may prove me wrong).
i wondered if audi TT 225 bhp calipers and carriers or carriers only would fit? if they did i'd then have to buy/fit the TT's discs as well? i noticed that you refered to the TT as "180". not disagreeing with you but my father in law has always refered to it as "190", if its 180 is it the same set up as the petrol cupra/fr? thanks for any info.
Right just had a look on ETOS all tt's have 312mm front discs, so all you will need is the carriers and discs, then you have a decision if you want to have heat shields because the larger disc will foul the shields, they are a bout a £5 a shield for the larger ones. Yes I'm pretty sure its the same front set up as a petrol cupra.
Any 5x100 (I think thats the correct PCD off he top of my head!) 312mm discs should do fine.

havin a touch of difficulty trying to get hold of some caliper carriers, thought i'd try and widen my search criteria, does anyone know for sure wether the 312mm caliper carrier is the same part accross all the vag cars which come with 312mm discs?
one of the questions above asked wether TT calipers and carriers would fit, i was told they would, however, would the my original caliper fit into the TT carrier?

vag parts do have them in stock but i was hoping to get some second hand ones on the cheap, problem ive got is that the scrappy whos got them told me they have come off a TT and i am not sure whether my calipers will fit straight onto the tt carriers???thats why i asked about the list of cars which have the carriers which would fit my original calipers, the A3 and TT calipers look different to mine but not sure if the mounting holes would be in the same place, i have been told that the calipers and the carriers from the TT would fit mine but didn't want to spend money on new TT calipers which are no better than the ones i already have.
The calipers are the same as long as its a MK1 TT your calipers will bolt straight on to them if they don't then you will have been sold the wrong item to start off with.
