cordoba lab, hi finally got round to getting my front brake upgrade done, only problem now is that ive just got hold of some rear calipers and carriers from a 225TT and was told that these would need a 4mm spacer baetween the carrier and the hub? i notice by your sig that you have upgraded your rears, did you have any problemsor need spacers?

cheers Dave

I didn't have a problem because mine were source more by luck than judgement from a 2wd Golf so didn't require the spacer I believe all 225TT are 4 wheel drive some please correct me if I'm wrong and you will need a 4mm spacer, this isn't the end of the world a few washers and a longer bolt would do the job or I believe there is a chap making them to order them the forum or MK4's, but don't know who they are because of not needing to deal with them. If you are doing the rears and you are swapping splash guards then you need to pull the hub and remove the stub axle so it is quite an involved process.

Thanks for the advice, I managed to get the rears sorted the other day, :)

I used 6mm hardened steel spacers, They fit like a glove, Had major problems trying to bleed the system though :cartman: 3 hours and 3 litres of brake fluid later i just managed to get a feel of my brake pedal back :(

Booked it in to the local vag specialist the next day and parted with 25 quid, Hey presto, 10 mins later brake pedal back to the top and massively improved stopping power which just keeps getting better and better each time i stamp on the brakes.

I would recomend this upgrade to anybody that hasn't got it and is a MUST for anybody who's currently running a remap ;)

For the rear you need calipers and carriers and if it is off a 4wd golf you will need a spacer which is easy enough to make. Then you have the decision of changing splash shields, because the standard one will foul the rotor. If you do change it then you have to remove the hub which is a bit of a pain but quite doable.
