Toledo v5 help

Hi everyone

due to reason i didnt expect its been along time since ive been on the site dont worry nothing bad.

right I`m looking to buy a toledo v5 but i haven`t a clue what i need to look for aswell has the usual things i know because i`ve never had a v5 tolly.

please could you give me any details i need to help me when i go to look at the car

oops nearly forgot the v5 is 150bhp can anyhting be done to the car in the form of enhancements performance or styling wise and anything that shouldn`t be done

def avoid ANYTHING with an engine rattle. The timing chain is on the gearbox side so any repairs mean a 'box out. There are tensioners, guides, chains - not cheap to put right. After that, pretty much usual used car checks - overall condition. everything works as it should (esp electric windows, central locking and a/c), no damp carpets etc etc

Virtually everything from the rear wheels forward is same as Leon (apart from the engine which was never put in a Leon afaik)

If you use the search function in the Toledo Mk1/Mk2 forum and type something like 'known v5 faults' you'll see this is a common question and should contain all the answers you need ;)

As for performance mods for the v5 150 you're best bet is a remap (10-15bhp) of the ecu and changing the air filter may help a little, I have the K&N replacement filter fitted. SS performance Exhausts are fairly hard to find :cry:

Check out the 'Readers Rides' section and 'Toledo Mod Ideas' thread to see some pics of possible cosmetic mods. They can look pretty sexy if done properly.

If you haven't already bought it the best bet for more performance is to buy the 170 bhp version straight away as these can now be bought for silly money. Not only do you get an extra 20 bhp but it's a nicer engine and better spec car, nicer wheels, bigger vented rear brakes ( the same as the LCR ) etc.

Buying a 150 and getting it re-mapped to 160ish BHP will be more expensive than buying a 170 version :doh:

2nd that. The 170 bhp is FAR superoir to the 150bhp! The only probs ive had with my 2001 model is the pre-cat sensor dying (£200) & wet footwells, sorting them out this weekend (thanks to forum members giving the guide to doing them:))

go for the 170 mate i used to have 1, tonnes of extras as standard only prob i had with mine was a gearbox mount and coil packs started to go but that was a common thing when they get to 70k.
:D vw garage was cheaper for coil packs than seat!!
great car i would still have it if it wasnt nicked from my parents while i was on holiday!!!!!
