Anthony, one decent thing about the high ride on yours, you weren't driving over the field thinking you were going to tear your front bumper (or worse) off every two seconds
and that engine bay is spotless!

Thanks guys :)

Brummy, yep, no worries on the field. Maybe, just maybe, that'll change for next year!!

Paul, I used the following:
-Autoglym engine & machine cleaner, Tetroclean (this is really nasty stuff - wish i could find more of it!!) and some foaming degreaser from the same people who make WD40.
-Small nylon brush and a toothbrush
-Various rags, water sprayer
-High temp engine paint for the block and cam cover
-Meguiars vinyl care for the pipes.
Be warned, it takes a lot of time!! Once I'd started I felt I had to finish the job....

Andy, it was worse than in the picture on the last page!! It's basically 'all good' - just covered in 9 years of muck!!

You moving on now then mate??

Ollie

Hey mate,

Starting to think about, yeah. I don't expect the plate to sell straight away so I'm just trying to give myself some options.

MOT and insurance are up at xmas so I'll wait until the new year, at least. Early Leon Cupras and Octavia VRS' are coming down to around the £3k mark now and insurance is comparable with the 8v. Wouldn't leave me with any money to sort out any future problems mind!

Something like a Leon Cupra or an Octavia VRS would be ideal for the 15k a year commuting I'll be starting in the summer, and I can get myself something else as a toy (mx-5 possibly)

Equally I might end up keeping the mk2 for another year! :D

Keep it!!
If the plate sells then you don't really need to sell the car - keep it for fun!!!
If u get an early leon you have to get the face lift bumpers on it!!!!! and that will cost you some money!!

Mk3 Cupra Ibiza??? There is one on the forsale section for cheap with reasonable milage. Has a black bonnet which is pretty cool too

I'm going to be doing similar next summer which is when i will have to sell mine :(
I'm looking at early Leons, Toledo's and MK4 Golfs as a bigger car and 5 doors would be an advantage. Probably going to have 2.3 V5 over the 1.8T's as they go wrong less, are cheaper to buy and about the same on petrol on my work run. Although i'm not ruling the 1.6 16v out completely if the fuel situation starts to worsen again.

It will be a shame to finally leave the MK2 club but the cars a lovely original low miler and i don't want to ramp miles on to it, so hopefully it'll go to someone whose an enthusiast and only goes out for the odd blast.

That's why I'm thinking VRS instead. I think it's a bit better looking than the leon in standard trim - most people couldn't tell the difference between the Cupra and a 1.4. Only problem is, there don't seem to be as many Octys around. Both the Leon and the Octy have 180bhp instead of 150 in the Golf. Maybe an A3 1.8T if I can find one!

It would be a shame to leave the mk2's behind, they're great cars - but if I have a weekend toy I think I'd quite like something a bit more 'focused' with rear wheel drive.

Saw that mk3, think it would need as much spending on it to get it how I want it as just buying a standard mk3. I'd want to take out the tints, replace the wheels and paint the bonnet..... Wouldn't rule out a mk3 though, they're approaching the £3k mark too now.

Paul,
Yours does look mint!

Well I may be interested to take it off your hands next summer. I really want a white gti and it being an 8v is good aswell as I use my car everyday. So the fuel wont be that big an issue. Then that way I would be able to transfer alot of the stuff over from my 1.4 to the gti.

No problem mate, all my SEATS come for sale on here first.

I'd rather pass it on to someone who'll look after it. Don't particularly want to see it run into the ground after all the time & money I've spent on it.

Unfortunately cars like the mk2 are old enough that just about anyone can afford one.

Cheers,
Anthony

:p

Go on Andy, you've got plenty of time to bring her round. Mention a track / weekend toy in passing, plant the idea

Who knows what cars might present themselves for sale in a few months time ;)

Andy wasn't it your mate who bought his old cordy back off ebay. Is that the normal thing to do in club ice cavern?

There's no F in Quality..
Yeah, Pete bought his old Corcy back off Ebay !!

that was after selling me his old LCR, and then buying an identical replacement.... then when I sold the LCR, I sold Pete the wheels back that were on it when I bought it, to fit to his new one....

Tiny update:

Thanks to some mild abuse (you know who you are ;) ), I've given in to peer pressure and bought these:

Spax nitrogen spring/shock set - thanks to Martin M!

Will be going on the car sometime in January when I can get a policy that will allow a few mods. And yes, this means the Ibiza is getting a stay of execution, for the time being :D
