problem is, as this thread shows is going it alone, and fair play for having a go, is huge risk and hassle compared to goign to those who have done it before, and learned thehard way themselves..

to do all this, get unlucky with supplier choice and components, trying to do "his own thing" has resulted in poor old Hooch suggesting he will break the car now as its been too much hassle. that has to be gut wrenching and a lesson for others.

I feel hooches pain, but I'm afraid some of it is self inflicted. learnt a lot along the way mind you I bet, and what/who not to use again.

I hope it has'nt put him off.

Knowing Hooch, I doubt it will have put him off .... engine going bang on the first go would put most people off but he's still here.

I think the main thing with anything like this is being honest with yourself, what have you got the time to learn, the money to buy and can you afford to run another car whilst the one you're working on is off the road.

Then you have the problem of tools, access and storage space as well as somewhere warm and dry to work.

Personally as far as major mechanical work goes, i'd always leave it to someone else but then again as others have found with companies they've used, that's not always any guarantee of a good end result.

Some of us like a challenge though. With a challenge, there's risk. The risks with this sort of thing are that it doesn't come out as intended, bits fail - or it just doesn't work.

The fun's in trying. In my book, Hooch has really achieved. :worship:

read it again hooch... as in "I hope it has'nt put you off".. :p clearly not if you bought yourself a kit car now.. lol ;)

Your the one who posted how disheartened you are, and will break the car possibly after all this work and hassle.. (your words here)

self in flicted: as in not following advise given when you have asked for it and choosing to forge your own path.

you know what I mean on that score.

See that's what i'm thinking about doing, keep the tintop as what it is - the easiest way to go faster is to have less weight to haul around. A Tiger / Westie / Locost with a standard redtop vauxhall engine / 1.8 Zetec is going to be nutter fast without needing to be woefully unlreliable due to having its nuts tuned off it.

yeah totally agree. its a learning curve and Hooches far better off for it. pity its hacked him off in the process though.
very few things go right 1st time... or 2nd and thats when the experts do it. im willing to pay for that expertise so its not my headache.. so total respect for those that dont[B)]

from what i've read everything hooch has done himself has been fine!it's the people he's paid to do stuff that have cocked up causing him to break the car:(God do i know that feeling:whistle:Hooch whatever the outcome there's no-one on here who can say they crossed the line at the pod doing 124mph:funk:

I'm sure Hooch can speak for himself, but I took his comments, and previous comments, to mean that he enjoys projects so much that no this one is finished, he's breaking it to fund other things...
