yeah not bad only 2 settings low and high boost but if you look previous there in a set of instructions have alook looks pretty simple plus on 2 wires and a vac cable through bulk head i like it

Right Jamie, Stop mingeing about ;) and fit the other spring. Start low and then work up. Then come back and tell us how good your set up is. (Don't go mad or past 1.4 bar @ Red line.)

Good thing about the Apexi is that it is very flexible, 3 settings, different boost settings for different revs and also for different gears, so you can have lower boost in 1st and 2nd then full boost, or lower boost below say 4500rpm then higher boost at higher revs.

The Greddy sounds alot simpler but alot easier to install. Mind you the Apexi is only 4 wires to connect I think.

lol:p

I will try and get round to it tonight, meant to be going out with the missus, but I am sure she will understand that I want to mess with the car instead:D

I am not sure how the MBC unit unscrews but should not be too difficult to work it out

You just keep unscrewing it until it comes out. Be careful when you think its about to come out that you dont drop anything.

well it screws and it stops, and guess it needs a little force

I haven't seen this piece Jamie but theres a chance that it could be able to come apart without fully removing the screws. Some pieces of kit have captured screws that are like that so you don't lose them. I'd try backing out all the screws till they stop and get a knife/screwdriver out and see if you can prize it open with a little persuasion.
Just thought bud:)

There are two allen key type screws on the bottom of the unit, which as you said, may be holding things together, so will give this a go

I am not going out tonight now, so will give me a chance to have a play and see what happens

well I took apart the MBC tonight and fitted the different spring, seemed thicker and stiffer

went out and even with it wound right in, it was almost hitting 1 BAR straight away

boost again seems stronger in 2nd, 3rd gear but pretty much the same in 4th and 5th

so after much driving and testing, the car just WONT boost past 1.2 bar, and I know for sure its not the MBC, as I almost wound this right out, so should have been seeing over 1.2 bar easily

so I am at a loss now. I am getting VAG com next friday (payday) and fitting the EBC to give me some more accurate readings, along with logging on VAG com....but I am really at a complete loss as the EBC will only do the same but just log it electronically of course

any thoughts on what else it could be?

my only thought is on the actuator arm on the turbo, it is wound right up, could this be it? :(

Personally I'd get the EBC in and working, then take it to who mapped it and have them check it all out for you, get the actuator set right and the controller etc.

thats gunna be some trek back to wolverhampton.......

the car was mapped at P-Torque. The car is running well, but certianly not at it's optimum

how do you test or setup the actuator? unwind it bit by bit?

stupid question, but the "actuator" is the rod at the bottom of the pic? which can be wound in or out?

what happens if you clamp the actutor hose or disconnect it completely and drive (carefully)......... as this *should* be uncontrolled boost, but if its only 1.2bar max still its hardware

thanks Bill

silly question, but to check, which one is the actuator hose?

one of the three hoses that go to the N75 Valve? not to the tip of the intercooler pipe, but the "other" one (sorry to sound thick!)

and clamping the hose removes it controlling the boost, so technically almost unlimited then?

test and drive carefully then to see if it hits over 1.2bar?

fella you scare me... you are messing with this and dont know the pipe which goes to your actuator?

Forget I suggested it... please get someone to do this for you who knows what they are doing. You risk engine damage otherwise.

follow the pipes to your actuator.. thats the simple bit.
Fiddling with this is potentially risky..

I have used my suggested method to diagnose control from hardware issues, and yes it would be "uncontrolled boost" aside from controlling the throttle, which is'nt hard.

but again, I suggest you ignore what I said if you are not sure what you are doing.

I thought Dave ran MBC in parallel with his N75 for a while to deal with the spike whilst he adjusted it and the sps settings to tweak his boost up

well controlling my throttle is not the hard part (right foot)

I think I know which pipe you mean though, so will try tomorrow:)
