my new ibiza 1.4s

PLEASE READ THE NEXT PARAGRAPH, MY 1.4 BLEW UP ON THE MOTORWAY, TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WOT TO DO ITH IT!!!!

right i am back on this forum after quite a while and i have had problems with my ibiza 1.4,
basically i went away for 2 months came back got in the car drove down the road and it died, ii have had a mechanic look at it and it apears the timing is out wich points to the tansioner on the cambelt being at fault, i now have fire and oil coming from my air manifold when i try to turn the car over,

my friend is a mechanic and we are towing the car to his garage on tuesday, we think that the probable solution will be a new (second hand) engine, so we thought wot can we put in it instead of a standard 1.4 engine? we need somthing that will be a straight forward fit,

my question is does anyone know of any engines wich are a straight fit? maybe a 1.6 vw golf engine or just a standard 1.6 ibiza engine, also are there any problems wich need to be highlited when trying somthing like this

hi,
i have just bought myself a v reg seat ibiza 1.4s in silver,

im really pleased with it, i think theee seats are really nice cars to drive, my fiend has the 20vtcupra but i couldnt afford the insurance on one of those , or the petrol.

anyway it was an absolute bargain at £1400, 70,000miles, full service history, cd changer in boot and alloy wheels,

i looked around but it seems u cant buy one of theese cars for less than 2g so i think i was lucky, its so clean its like a brand new car, hasnt got a mark on it and the interior is mint, i bought it of a girl who has just been given a mazda mx-5 so she wasnt bothered about getting alot for it,

i was just wondering if anyone here could tell me a little about it,
for starters its a ibiza 1.4 s, does anyone know wot the s stands for? my friend thinks it means sport but i cnt understand why a 1.4 would be a sport,

also is the 1.4 mpi engine 16v? ive seen the same car advertised as 16v so i just wondered if it was,

i havnt had any problems with it so far but ive only had it a couple of days, but everything in the car works perfectly and ive got tons of reciepts for new parts wich its had in the last 2 years.

its got some alloy wheels fitted already wich i have a reciept to show cost £400 just over a year ago and they look really clean, the only plans i have for it is to tint the windows with a smoked tint, im not a fan of limo tints,

would apreciate if anyone here could answer my questions, and let me know if they think i got a good deal, i will post some pics in next couple of days

:)

it's 8v. "S" stands for "sh1te" :D

Mine is a .cool/s (cool piece of sh1t LMAO)

seriously tho, S means nothing, our trim levels are s, cool, cool/s, chill then there's a 1.6 sport and 1.8 cupra and cupraR. Also a DERV in there somewhere

Hey man welcome to the forums. Only got my ibiza a few weeks ago too. Basically the S stands for 'style' i think, and it's one step up from the basic entry level trim(I think the base doesn't have e/windows or smtg)

Mine's a 2000 plate 1.4 and I got it for under a grand, but no service history/alloys/changer. Did all the necessary checks on it though and took it to a good mechanic and there's been no problems so far (lol except for our really shitty centre console stereo).

I'm in the process of fixing up a new head unit, done all the wiring, just got to finalise where I'm gonna place it now.

Let me know what quotes you get for the tints, I was thinking of getting mine done (they're minimally tinted atm, i think factory standard) but I'm a bit strapped for cash these days, so was wondering whether to go down the self tint route, but i've heard some horror stories there

thanks for the reply's,

yea i didnt think it was a sport as theres nothing sporty about it at al really, i wouldnt call it a piece of sh1te though it runs really smooth its like driving a brand new car, my last car was a 1993 mk3 vw golf wich didnt have power steering or abs or electric windows or anything else for that matter so compared to that this is heaven,
i do alot of mileage so i wanted somthing nippy but economical wich this car is great for, around town it flies down the road with no problems and the acceleration is pretty good of the line, and i can do 42 mpg!!!!!

i have found places wich do window tints for around £70-£100 for a small 3 door car wich i think isnt too bad, definatly better than the do it urself route wich will probly cost half that anyway by the time you buy all the stuff.

i have had one problem with it though, the remote locking key doesnt seem to be working, it was working and then it would only lock the car but not unlock it and now it wont work at all, the light still comes on on the key itself so i dont think its a faulty key, does anyone know wot could be causing this?
i supose theres som sort of unit inside the car wich reads the signal from the key wich could be faulty, or maybe needs a battery changing?

any help would really be apreciated, (pics of car will soon come)

:):)

can anyone help me with this remote locking problem?????

im taking it to my friends work on saturday, hes a mechanic but he has told me to ask on here wot people think it mite be so that we can hopefully get it fixed alot easier,

i would really apreciate some help

thanks:)

since im nice i will tell you.

do this:
1) change the batteries.

2) follow this procedure:
sit in car and put key in ignition, shut all doors
turn key to light up the dash lights wait 1 second then twist ignition off and remove key from ignition.
within 1 second press and hold the lock button while pressing unlock 3 times.
let go of the buttons and sit there, within 5 seconds the car should lock then unlock itself.
get out the car, shut door and now your fob works!

3) if step (2) does not work then try buying a replacment fob on ebay then just changes the blade so your blade is on the new fob. try (2) again.

if those dont work then:headhurt: i think its dealer time

right im sitting in the car now and i have tried this procedure but it doesnt seem to be working, once i take the key out of the ignition and hold the lock button while pressing unlock 3 times the key fob light flashes 3 times but the car does not lock and then unlock itself, it does nothing, the key fob itself seems to be working as the light on it os working so im getting worried that its the part inside the car wich is broken, does anyone have any more ideas???

ok i had a key problem earlier which had to do with the receiver in the key. Use a small srewdriver to open the key and take out the bits including the small rice peice (receiver) and clean these...then put it back together and use the steps in the booklet to reset the key.

should be fine...

there is a small rice piece in the key, which should be made of glass...

but my suggestion is take everything out of the key (which can be taken out) and clean that. Especially clean all the circuits and connections. Then reset the key as mentioned in your instruction booklet.

should be fine

do u mean the tiny little cylinder shaped thing inside the key itself, like if u take out the remote part its in the u shaped part attached to the metal key?

how do i get it out and how do i klean it?

be VERY careful when handling this, if you break it your car will nto start as that is the imobaliser chip!

the circuitry in the fob is rubbish, i work for a company that do tiny circuits etc and got some one to remove everything and re solder all the components as well as sonic bathing all the bits.

its easier to buy a new remote! lol

Adam is right. The little rice piece makes contact with your engine computer. If this contact is not made, the car will start and cut out within 1 second...this for security reasons if someone is trying to start your car with replica key...

I had this problem, and turned out the inside of the key was dirty causing bad contact between the car and key...

sorry mate but its not a 'bad' connection.

basically there is a little magnetic circuit around the ignition barrel, this reads the chip that is inside the key by looking at its magnetic code. this code then is read by a 'smart box'. if the code is correct then the circuitry will unlock the ignition coils permenantly.

as soon as that chip is removed from the electro magnetinc field the ignition is cut and the car wont run.

there are no mechanical or electric contancts, so cleaning the immob chip wont do a thing.

then i am curious as to why i had this problem, that my car kept turning off immediately and gave the code that a wrong key was inserted (which was not the case) I then took the key apart and cleaned it and since then (a few months now) it has never done it again...

how should I explain that then?
