Nowhere near, i.e. Norway.
Mine are like these

ballasts are tiny, makes it easier to hide them away.

That's a very handy size!

I'm not being cantankerous or anything.
I see what you're saying, but I don't think any one is mounting them so far back, that the heat will "take" them.
There's plenty of plastic up front where I ought to place them. That plastic seems fine, so far.

I have taken a couple of pics of the bulbs in my angel eyes. Are they H1? If so, in theory, if I buy a H1 HID kit, shouldnt they just clip straight in????

That's a H1 but the H1 HID bulbs are bigger at the "root" (not only the root, but the whole bulb in fact), so they don't fit. I've had Ultra angel eyes and they needed trimming to take HID bulbs.

How much did you have to trim?
I was speaking to another member yesterday and he said H1 HID's went straight into his Ultra Angel Eyes.

Think I will have to bite the bullet and just buy a set witht he smaller bulbs (still H1) and hope that Im lucky (normally Im not though haha).

Still, its only £40 for a set. They will fit. Eventually hahahaha.

Pat, how easy was it for you to trim/bend the metal for the HID bulb?

If you want to do a proper job, you need to seperate the lens from the light ... then remove the projector lens and then carefully drill out the base so the bulb fits. Carefully brush away any swarf ( don't wipe it as you will remove the silver reflective coating) and reassemble.

It's time consuming and a bit fiddly but not difficult.

LOL.
I think that as the bulbs in mine are H1, I should buy a H1 HID kit. In theory they should be a direct fit
