Thats a good finish, even better cause it's on a red car same as mine lol. Was the finishing cloth any good? was there alot of effort to get the wax of?

the finishing cloth was so so imo...

the wax was pretty easy to buff off. once i'd done the whole boot i went over it again with a new mf cloth and that really made it shine. [B)]

i was impressed with the finish and i hope the pic does it justice.
cant wait to do the whole car now tho just so i can see the end result.

Thats gd to know about the cloths. Ive got one of the finishing cloths already, i think those cloths are good for wiping down after polish cause ive notice after you polish it if your car is sitting next to a street light in the night time, you find some secret wee layers of dust grrr. Ill need to give it ago this weekend cause i bought a buffer machine from halfords for £25, see if it makes a difference using a machine

I had some a few moths back when it first came out (March I think?) and I was very impressed by it. The applicators are great (keep them wet), but the MF supplied isn't the best, and is surprisintly coarse - I'd use something else.

Most of the £30 waxes are very good. Vics Concours is my favourite though, especially on red.

Back from the dead
As the weather is good and there aren't any clouds on the horizon this afternoon I will be cracking out a pot of this which I bought in a 3 for 2 deal at Halfords earlier in the year.

Did a 3 stage Meguiars (burgundy pots: 3 step paint clean / polish / wax) just after Christmas but it hasn't really done what I'd hoped for so today I'm going to give a quick coat of Scratch X (Megs), and then use the hi def wax after the ultra deep shine polish.

I hate car cleaning, and I couldn't ever be bothered to detail a car, but I like the car to look tidy. At least it means I get outside in the sun. Looking forward to seeing the finish as although in the detail world this product is pretty cheap, for me it was horribly expensive!

I to have used AG Hi-Def and i think its fantastic. Im no expert but have used a variety of products over the years.

I've clayed, megs 3step #8 glaze then applied two coats of Hi-Def and the reults were great, unfortunantly I didn't take any pics at the time however im due to do a mates blue Fiesta ST on monday so ill take a pic and add it to the thread.

I paid 28quid and think it worth evry penny and should last me a very long time, would highly recomend it.

As promised cleaned my mates ST today. Its 3yrs old and has seen a sponge occasionally so it got the works. Clay, scratch X where needed, Megs 3 step and a coat of Hi-Def. Neither of us are experts but i think the results are pretty good.

AG HD punches well above its wait. Excellent durability and a deep shine on practically any paint.

I'm a novice when it comes to this so correct me if i'm wrong people.

Clay - essentially a bar of clay. You will need some "lube" often known or referred to as "quick detailer". Meguirs do a starter kit with everything you need and for a straight of the shelf frist time novice buy i think most people will agree its a good kit.
The clay is rubbed on the surface of the paint work after the car is cleaned and along with the lube it removes bonded on contaminants such as tar spots, fall out (from train tracks) and general crap thats in the air. It will leave your paint work with a glass like finish (will look better than new) once completed you can apply polish, wax, sealents etc etc. When you use it at frist it will feel rough on teh paintwork, as you continue to rub the motion will become smoother, when it glides along the paint your done.

Scratch X - a modern day T-Cut if you like. Its has a slightly harsh compond to use on those light scratches to help remove them. It can will a whole lot of elbow greese by used to remove swirl marks. I believe someone on this forum or one of teh detailing ones gave it a go, its very hard work but can be done. I only use this in concentrated areas, I don't do the whole car or even a whole panel.

Best advice just browse through this forum and some of the detailing forums that can be found on the links from here. Just have a look, look at the products on manafacture websites and make up your own mind.

The first time I used clay I was apprehensive but followed the instructions and couldn't believe the results.

Hope this helps
Steve
