Fuses on the top of the battery

My left hand fuse one decided it wanted to not work any more so made a nice black mess around the fuse holder.
Thankfully i was close to home and have cleaned the "burnt" of the one side of the fuse.
This stopped the cooling fans from working,but they are now after a clean and anew fuse, i am waiting on the dealers to come of lunch so i can order a new fuse holder.

What is the problem with these to do this?

my mate had this it was the alternator over charging and melting the fuse box

i heard another common fault is the climatronic causing this too
but mot sure if it was a myth??

Ta for the heads up, got a brand new fuse box on the way, for very slightly more than a breakers wanted and for 20% less than a local dealers can do off a dealer on here (not sure if nameing names is ok?)

I think mentioning any dealer on here that is already advertising is ok. I mean if they have done a forum member a good service then why not give a little plug :)

The lefthand fuse, of the big flat fuses, rated 110 A is the fuse from the alternator to everything else. If that has gone you're running on battery power only.

How many fuses are there in your battery top box, and what are their ratings?

The fault we seem to see most often on these forums is fuse 164, the one in the middle (rated 30 A) which blows as a result of failed load resistors in the radiator fans. This prevents the fans running at low speed all the time when the airconditioning is on; they switch on and off at high speed, often blowing fuse 164 which feeds them - then they don't work at all.

On the LC engine, the rightmost fuse, 162, rated 30 A, apparantly supplies the secondary air pump motor, which is not a critical system at all.

110 amp?
Mine are all 30 amp on top of the battery, mines a 2001 LC

Had the car since end of march and no problems, my scanguage told me something was wrong well before the temp on the dash did too.

Right, now I understand where I'm going wrong.

Take a look at this thread, which has pictures of my battery-top fusebox in it. The green things are 30A fuses, but the strips of metal are also fuses, with value from 30A to 110A. From your last reply, I think you're only talking about the green fuses.

The leftmost green fuse, S180, feeds the radiator fans via the thermal switch in the radiator, independent of the fan control unit. This gives you low speed fans even if the fan controller packs up. High speed fans, and the selection of fan speed associated with the aircon being on, are provided by the fan control unit fused by one of the big flat fuses.

The above assumes you have airconditioning fitted. With no aircon, I think the whole fan control unit is left out and the thermal switch (which has two sensors) controls the low and high speeds directly.

Thanks mate i never realised them others were fuses to.
Yes the left 30 amp was blown and blackened.
I have put a new one in and checking it regular it seems fine.
I have ordered a new holder to be safe.

What's the cause of mine doing what it did any idea? Fans starting to pack up if so ill do the resistor mod.

If it's not continually blowing when you've replaced it then I wouldn't worry too much. Fuses blow, could have just been a random surge or it was on it's way out.
