262 miles to a tank last night. Maths show that to be approx 22mpg.

Best answer is if you are concerned about running costs........................DONT BUY ONE!!!!

Personally i love the car, mine is three days old and i have done oooohhhhhh let me see, oh right just 300 miles.

Already on the second tank - got 240miles out the first one. Seems 25mpg is the norm!!

But.......I DONT CARE!!!! LOL!!!

Apart from petrol, the Cupra running costs aren't too bad really.

Does 30 mpg on a run, probably more if you go steady so isn't too bad.

Booked if for first service £160

Just replaced a tyre due to a puncture £117

Road tax is I think about £210 at the moment

Insurance £600

All in all not bad considering the performance of the car.

28.6mpg over first 900 miles of fairly restrained driving new Cupra. Not much worse than my Mk2 FR TFSI or MK1 20VT. I do a 40 mile round trip commute with 12 miles of open B roads and 8 miles urban. The Cupra has different gearing in 4, 5, 6 than the FR. For example you would not put the FR in 6th much lower than 60 whilst the Cupra will happily pull 6th from around 50 and 5th from 45.

Do I get the long term lurker award

Overall the computer tells me 18.9 mpg. Tank to tank calculations show the same. All urban driving with stops / starts and aircon con or heavy footing it

I sometimes drive at 25-30mph in 6th on a slight descent to see how if affects the average mpg after a journey.

Very true Jace, some noise when you start up but quieter when you are cruising at motorway speeds.... oh and as for noise.... i dont hear that little ping until around the 480 mile mark from a fill up...

When i visit my son in Bexleyheath i park right next to a red Cupra and it looks lovely and i would love one... but it would be like cutting holes in all my pockets as i already do 2 £60+ fill ups a month, and i couldnt afford 4 or more!

Like someone said above, you dont buy a Cupra then start asking what it does to the gallon do you? You just buy on, drive one, and feed it when its hungry, end of! If you start number crunching and telling yourself you can get 30+mph if you take it slowly... then you bought the WRONG car!

I'll see what I get when I collect on Saturday. Trading in the Toledo Diesel 140 PD for the cupra as the benefits brought by the diesel don't offset the grin factor. 30+ mpg should be ok on the mway at legal speeds :). Around town I would forget any thoughts of good mpg.... at 70+ quid for a fillup for my Tolly I should be able to get a tank and quarter in petrol for the same price...

The dealer also reckoned that you won't achieve full MPG until the first service at 10,000 miles.

I'd agree with that. Mine has got slightly better the past couple of 1000 miles.

I tend to see over 30 mpg on the same run now that used to be 27 / 28.

Jace - I've had a TDI and am going back to one... I have found the Leon to be disappointing in many ways. I really miss my 350z. :(
