looks like a much thinner coating from this material.
you cant see the welds on the zirconium flame sprayed ones from zircotec.

be interesting to comapre longevity between these materials/coatings

dirties easy.. gloves to install. lol - its not for looks tho its for thermal insulation.
how pretty is thermal wrap?

it turns a creamier colour once heat cycled.

May have been different for me if zirotec had answered the phone or email  that was my main deciding factor. right or wrong we'll see

yea that was bad service for you. not what i have experienced thnkfully. maybe just caught em on a bad day, who knows..

i Read somewher in one of these long and convoluted threads about turbo system design that the manifold should be coated and insulated along with insulation jacket on the turbo but the downpipe shouls be left uninsulated as it improved gas transition fromm the high pressure hot area to the lower pressure cold area and improved the speed and flow of gases through the turbine...or have I got this mixed up with the weather reports!!

If you coat items the heat will travel further down the system before its released, meaning other items under the car will get hot. I have done my downpipe mainly due to it being so tight to the drive flange on the transfer box.

Zircotec Coatings - Coloured finish

i know what your saying but my engine bay is like a art museum so that would be the main painting lol

I know that Zircotec do a silver and a matt black finish to match those offered by Camcoat (plus it seems that Zircotec do a whole range of other colours as well but I havnt seen these). From reading around I think the main difference is that the Zircotec coating is not a paint.......it is solid ceramic about 1mm thick and is there to stop heat. Painted finishes can only be about 0.1mm thick otherwise they peel.

compare coating thicknesses...........

zirconium sprayed one is a thicker coating to any others I have seen, like the jet coat black ones etc... Are they sprayed and baked on? or flame sprayed?

Camcoat is a paint

why would you paint it tho? seems pointless.

minimivic's is coated not painted also

My understanding is thaty Camcoat is a paint (you can buy it in a can from Demon Tweeks) whilst Zircotec offer a plasma welded coating with a paint finish as an extra. I am a novice here but it seemns to me that you get something more than just a paint from Zircotec.

you get a flame (plasma)sprayed zirconium coating from zircotec, hence its adhesion to the prepped surface being extremely good, and its thickness being what it is (thicker)

I have had jet-hot coat application on one of my turbo's previously, and it burnt and flaked off after just a couple of heat cycles with no adhesion and no effect on temp radiation to speak of. The zirconium spray, on a customer car which had done some hard logging on the road, within 30secs of stopping you could briefly touch the DP such was its insulation properties. (and still had skin left.. where as I know on my original manifold, doing the same results in a visit to the burns unit as you loose your skin)
