Did CR Turbos tell you exactly what they did and what was the bill for their work, I'd like to get this done to mine too. Any idea what extra HP they anticipate?

statement of work on the invoice was:

fitted 360 thrust bearing, fitted larger compressor wheel and reprofiled to suit

they did not state aniticipated increase in HP, not sure if they could to be honest as it might be lining themselves up to be shot down i.e. they quote getting over 300bhp, but it only makes 290bhp if you see what I mean

Rob,

I am in discussions with them regarding a similar project....all I can say is that so far they are VERY professional, no BS and extremely knowledgeable.....and willing to work with you...a breath of fresh air in the tuning industry?

I can sure verify that

guy I spoke to, Vince I think it was, great guy, VERY knowledgeable, very friendly and the turn around time on the turbo was very good

when talking to them, they made it very easy to understand what could be done, what the options were dependant on budget and explained very well what improvements they would fit, along with the outcome of the expected improvements

glad you recommended them Rob, a good find and a hard thing to find i.e. good customer service in the tuning industry:)

Cool - they must have enlarged the entrance to fit a larger compressor wheel. What did they charge for this work?

I am not sure to be honest Rob. Perhaps they made the presumption that if they are fitting a larger compressor wheel then automatically they would be making the entrance larger

turbo is stored away so I can't go and look at it right now, sorry

No probs, I've been back in touch with them and they've verified what they did and how much they'd charge me.

I presume you verfied you mean by what they did to my turbo as an example?:)

what did they quote you Rob?

I presume you are having the same done as me? 360 thrust bearing, compressor wheel and reprofile to suit?

did you find out if they enlargen the entrance where the compressor sits?

Here's what they said:

"With Jamie's turbo we fitted an uprated 360 thrust (with larger bearing area) to run more boost safely, the larger wheel and profiling, I believe we also re-routed the actuator rod to give improved boost control. These mods to your turbo would be £245 plus £10 carriage plus VAT."

So £300 to hybrid the turbo and send it back, pretty good price I reckon. I also asked about an oil restrictor because the GT2X does not have one and I think it should. A turbo only needs around 30psi to lubricate the bearings, the 1.8T knocks out 60-80psi of oil pressure. The Gt28RS, Gt2871 etc. all come with oil restrictors as standard, but they are water cooled too so I don't know if this makes a difference.

ah yes, the actuator, completely forgot about that as well, as I think they fitted an uprated actuator due to the original one knocking/rubbing on something....

either way, top job, and it should see over 300bhp I hope....

only time will tell:)

fingers crossed for ya buddy 300 sounds loads better than 290 something.

I was thinking that the other day, 300 hundred just sounds a lot more! :p

either way, going from approximately 180bhp to nearly 300bhp is going to be quite scary and more than fast enough on the road:D

i wouldnt get hung up on the numbers, so what if it makes 290 or 300?

as long as it makes you grin like a nutcase who cares!

are you having a manual boost controller fitted jamie?

It is something I am considering, especially for the winter months, so i can turn the power down...dont really want near 300bhp with Ice on the road:headhurt:

clutch and brakes being fitted on monday now!

Question - For the clutch, what is the recommended mileage to wear it in. A friend has a stg3 clutch and recommends about 1200-1500 for it to be worn in?

awaiting concrete dates from AMD at the Woking branch at the moment. Pushing for July (I am like a kid in a sweet shop at the moment with all the parts waiting to go on:D)

and one final thing to confirm, Rob is it just the 3" housing or the 3" MAF and housing that I need. Been told it is just the housing

thanks
