Might be one for DANGB!

After doing the bluetooth mod the steering wheel mute button can be reprogramed to do voice control but obviosly it has the wrong symbol. The correct symbol is on part number 1P0 959 537 A (no A for the 'standard' one).

Anyone any idea if it is easy/difficult to swap these pads?

Im sure its easy to swap the actual pads yes, The is only the one control unit listed so it must work?

I think they just pull out, I had a tug at mine and it seems to move quite easily.

I think they are about 60quid plus VAT. Some thing I was always interested in doing but couldnt justify the cost.

Bloody hell - £75!

Do the two most leftmost buttons work as pick-up/hang-up now you have the MFD?

nope, the MFD doesnt affect the buttons :)

Only change from the blueooth is the lack of mute button which I miss (and I never use the voice command)

That's interesting! I wonder what "turns on" those two buttons. Maybe buying the correct pads might be worth it?

I agree that the loss of the mute button is annoying. The mute button on my MFD2 sat nav doesn't seem to do anything either :(

I seem to remember from the Golf that they are scewed on, underneath the airbag...

Try searching on www.uk-mkvs.net for "rerofit s/w controls" as there was a long thread complete with pictures...

Thanks for the hint. Yupp, looks like the golf ones are bolted to the SW under airbag. Not as easy as I'd hoped.

Airbag is easy to remove... Disconnec tthe battery. Turn the wheel 90 degrees and there is C shaped slot behind the wheel (you can see them in the picture above, right above the the felt pen 7 mark), there is a steel wire spring clip that fits over this which you can remove with a flat blade screw driver. Then turn the wheel 180 degrees and do the other side. Then carefully withdraw the airbag and disconnect it.

Really easy, I changed my s/w on my Golf...

Hi Darrell, I'm new to all this Forum thing so beawith me. If I've read it right, you have changed your steering wheel radio controls? if so, do you still have the originals??
Also, have you any tips on removing the airbag, then the steering wheel?
thanks, Newbie Paul
