Strange one the parking as we got sent to park with all the porches

I wondered whether the steward had directed me correctly when we were next to Porsches and Seats in one section with a couple of Fords and a Saxo! We were late so just parked there -quite handy as it was right in front of gates.
Great racing and results for SEAT!

To be fair, there was a sign saying Porsche/Seat Parking this way but we decided to turn right instead of heading straight on to the car park. We still got their anyway. :)

Good day out...very impressed with the marquee arrangement/organisation of the SCN massive. Will come to a few more BTCC meetings now I think :D

Where did you take these? I got a few good ones but seemed to end up behind catch fencing wherever I was. The only decent banking is on the inside of the old hairpin and my 300mm struggled a bit.

MASSIVE result for the team!!!

TWO firsts, one second and one win. Jase clocked the fastest lap of the day with a 1:12.677. AND...and MOST OF ALL....The team took a massive step for me to overhaul VXR in the standings. What was the difference between us and VXR before Donny? You look at the 198 they have in the Manufacturers standings and you look at the 183 SSUK have and they are just 15pts shy now. OK we still have a lot of work to do to overhaul them in the Teams standings what with them having 178 and SSUK 132 but theirs time. And in the Drivers standings again you have to think that although Jase' has a while to go before he overcomes Giovanardi such is the difference you have to think theirs still time. It is not, again, unasailable.

FANTASTIC work by SSUK! Thanks guys! For all I know the TDi could do very badly indeed at Thruxton, but atleast the team has given me a meeting to remember.

And thats exactly where we were, on the inside of old hairpin at the bottom of the bank. Its a mini wire fence down there so it doesn't get in the way of the photography.

I was using a 70-300mm zoom lens at full zoom with a D40X!

However I'll wait for Iceman to post his pics up using his proper kit of prime 300mm lens. :D Thanks to Pete also for giving me tips on taking pics....the practice is working i'd say!

Still.....i couldn't believe how fast his D3 jobbie was snapping away! I thought my 3fps was fast but bloody hell hearing his 9fps going off was like a machine gun! lol

So am I right in thinking you've cropped these?

oh yes LOL big time cropping but thankfully they're still reasonably focussed and presentable!

Way better than anything i would have got with my old 35mm camera so happy with the new toy so far.

Just need to persuade Iceman Pete to let me have his D3 on the cheap when he next upgrades lol.

Is that a new lap record then? I thought for the BTCC it was 1:12.889 by Vauxhall set in 2005? /geek

For what it's worth I think the new owners are certainly investing in the track. In the last month they have re-done the pitlane wall to the start finish straight adding a concrete upstand with fencing, re-painted the whole place including the kerbs to the new black and orange scheme and by the looks of it added a small concrete apron past the kerb at the old hairpin. There also strangely seems to be a couple of new grandstands to the start/finish straight although viewing is rubbish here.

According to the circuit profile on btcc.net Yvan DID do a 1:12.899 in 2005 at Donny (10 April 2005) and it says in black and white that Jase clocked 1:12.677 so their is no doubting Jase DID break the lap record in setting the fastest of the race and of the meeting.

In fact it does say in ther article "Jason Plato smashed the Donington Park lap record on his way to giving the Leon TDI its first HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship race win – and in doing recorded the first victory for a diesel engined car in the 50 year history of the series."

Well done Jase!

btw, thanks Chungster for the SCC pics. The one problem with the TOCA support series is that each car has a different livery. Even those that belong to the same team. As you can see Lawson and Herrron have different liveries. Yet the both compete for JHR. This makes identification better for me.

Old specification too. That's a BTC spec car no longer qualifies for the outright championship. Independents can still use them, but the sharp end have all switched to S2000 specification now.

SEAT have been S2000 since the entered the BTCC in 2004.

So I would presume that Jason took the S2000 lap record whilst also breaking the outright record.

Loud pipes save lives!
Nice shots there chungster, here are some of mine although they are no where near as good as yours, but I thought they caught some of the action pretty well.

BTW, if anyone wants to keep up with the support series' on TV, they show them on ITV in "Motorsport UK" but it's normally a few weeks behind because they show highlights of all the support classes spread over a few episodes.

EDIT: Ooops my pictures didn't automatically resize  so I'll take them down for now as they were huuuge lol. How can you make the pictures automatically resize smaller so they don't fill the screen?
