We'll have to wait tell next year i'd say to find out.
If there's a 1.4tsi 125bhp i'll probably get it. I'm not to sure about downsizeing though. I'll reserve judement until see it up close and i test drive it.

1.9 tdi is ancient history and anything under 200bhp for the diesel cupra will be a joke.

No because VAG do update their engines.Otherwise going by your theory the 2.0TFSI and 1.8TFSI engines are ancient also.

Like we've all said before it's doubtful that the ibiza will see a 200bhp diesel. Petrol with out a doubt but it's much more likely to be the 2litre 170 tdi than it is to be that one.

The diesel biza is much sharper than the petrol one.I think seat people know that.I seriously doubt that they will keep the old engine

In its class there is no engine in the world that is better than the 2.0TFSI. Its world engine of the year tag proves that.

D'osnt the new A4 have a 143 bhp 2.0 cr tdi. I can see something like that being in the FR

The new A4 is only out with a limited range of engines at the moment still. there will be loads of diesel and petrol engines to choose from. Think it will start from 90 PS all the way up to 350hp not including RS models.

I have mb e 320 cdi and i will leave it to my wife.I couldn't choose betwen MB G 500 and the new biza.I know it sounds odd but that's my case.
If the biza diesel is under 200 bhp too bad mb will get my money.

I'd say the petrol's will make a similar jump, (FR 1.8 TSi 160bhp - Cupra 2.0 TSi 200bhp).
I wonder if the 1.9 is uprated and will it be as clattery as usual.

Don't discount the fact that Seat Sport usually give us a version tuned for more power than the rest of the VAG stablemates...

If there are some truely mental people working for seat then the the 200bhp tdi ibiza could happen, and it would be bloody awesome if it did. But It just won't. But i'm quite sure the 170 will happily remap to 200 with out much too much trouble.

EDIT: If it did how glorious would gizmondos i told you so be? But ours is much more likely... unfortunatly.

A little of topic, but as we are talking about Cupra/FR models with 2.0 TFSI and TDI units I thought it might be worth mentioning.

I had read recently in Autocar that VW were working on more efficient diesel and Petrol engines to match BMW's award winning efficient dynamics range of engines.

From memory it was a VAG engineer stating that in around 12 months time starting with the 2.0 TFSI and 2.0 TDI range they will be updated with more power, less CO2 emissions and more MPG. It would be a real bitch to have an old style unit with less power, less MPG and more CO2, costing you more in road tax and fuel costs, so anyone thinking of buying one, do as much research as possible before hand.

If they can replicate BMW's technology with making their engines powerful yet so economical (BMW 120D 58.9 MPG 177 BHP) then I for one will probably buy another VAG product with the new engine specs. A 2.0 TDI Twin Turbo lump that could produce over 200 BHP do over 50 MPG and produce below 140 CO2 would be perfect. (actually hold on the BMW 123D does that already) COME ON VAG get a move on.

The only ibiza sized VAG car that has any chance of getting the 200hp TDI is the Audi A1, simple as that, and if it does happen it will most likely wear a Audi S badge.
