I was waiting for the GT28R Eliminator which is rated to around 310bhp and is a ball-bearing turbo, but when they are coming out who knows!?! I may wait for it but if it takes too long I'll get the GT2X reworked.

Must have been a very generous dyno to get 300bhp on a GT2X!

Well just spoke to CR Turbo's, very friendly lot and definitely know what they are talking about

spoke to a guy called Vince, and he said ATP are normally very good, it's just been a nightmare the last couple of weeks with them for some reason!

anyway, he said when the new unit arrives, is to give them a call and get the unit sent over and they will see if it can be further ported/milled out and if the core assembly can be re-machined etc

so, the build will be delayed further now with the possible developments and work CR turbos will be doing

What clutch would people recommend, as a friend has a stg3 in his Ibiza cupra (k03s etc) but says stg3 may be over kill and stg2 should be more than enough

will be getting a quote from TTS roadsport for different spec clutches

it continues..... :D

I have the Spec stage 1 with is rated for 320 ft-lbs but sure would be good for more. This coupled with a Steel SMF was £720 delivered. It was very OEM for a start but a little harsh now. I stall my car quite a bit now, thats after having the car for 5 years!!
I still have my winter tyres on so not had a chance to pull any standing starts yet.
There is increased transmittion noise but you soon get used to it.
I was worried about how harsh the stage 2 would be as this is my first forray into upgraded clutches. After feeling the Stage 1 I'm glad I went for this. If the stage 2 is harsher than the stage 1 it would piss me off stalling even more.
This might be just my one though. Also the biting point is higher than OEM which is what causing the stalling

no you just cant drive a fast car:p (joke!)

to be honest I would be concerned about a stg1, as the hybrid (possibly) gt2x would be putting out nearly bang on that torque figure, so would be right on the limit

I think stg2 would be enough. Waiting quotes from TTS roadsport now and Storm Developments to supply and fit also

where did you get that from by the way? I will see what Storm come back with, in regards to the whole kit

if they quote a lot more than I will buy the kit separately and just get them to fit it

What you mean waitin on the 28rs elim to come out rob? Its already out, called GTRS which is what DPJ has.

Nope, the new GT28R kit, different from the GTRS, spools faster and is rated to about 310bhp.

http://www.atpturbo.com/Merchant2/m...&Product_Code=ATP-VVW-167&Category_Code=VVWTK

"Features quicker spooling GT28R ball bearing center capable of 300+HP."

My clutch is a Helix and single-mass flywheel, so far has handled alot of abuse with over 300lbft for about 18 months now, no problems at all. Uprated Sachs clutch died within 3 months and destroyed the dual-mass flywheel. Heard alot of bad things about Spec clutches too.

Update: The turbo has now arrived and my guy is shipping it to me for delivery tomorrow or on monday!

although it wont be in my hands for very long as its getting sent straight off to CR turbos to get some hybrid treatment hopefully

still working out quotes on clutches etc....although TTS roadsport never called me back! :(

Update:

Turbo is now sitting on my desk, WOOHOO!! with a lot of other strange looking parts...no idea how it pieces together

They have sent me the ATP tip as well, but this has come with a bran new K&N cone type filter

I am wondering if the intake pipe is larger, and my Carbonio is going to become redundant? anyone know at all?

anyway it wont be in my hands for very long, I have just called CR Turbo's and they are picking up the unit on Monday to see if it can get some hybrid treatment - cost will be about £150, £200 absolute maximum! All depends if it can be done really, so hopefully will have a further update on the turbo by end of play next week for those that might be thinking of this route as well

slow progress indeed, but at least it is getting there now. next is clutch and brakes to be done and then all the turbo work and map can go ahead

probably wont be done now till back end of this year. Progress on this has been frustrating, but I think I did not set some realistic time frames for how long this sort of work would actually take (being it my first piece of work like this). Hooch's is a massive build and a lot more complex than mine, but should have learnt from that thread really that these things can never be done over night!

it continues.....

here are some pictures, and I am not very happy at all, unless someone can clarify that this is normal!!

a lot of scrapage on the turbo, and where they have seemed to have cut the turbo from the mould I guess, a bit has chipped off:([:@]

pics are not great quality, but have to get an opinion on this please if anyone could have a look please

Your making a GT2X a hybrid of sorts? Surely for the money your paying for that you might as well got a GTRS?

no reason not too really. Reason I went for the GT2X is because I did not want a turbo as laggy as going BT

Still with being a hybrid the spool up will be quicker than a BT, but just offering up a little more power:)

Phil regarding the pics, what do you think as there are quite a lot fo scrapes/cuts on the turbo, where i presume it has been cut from the mould? is this normal?

CR turbo's will be looking at it anyway so they should be able to help out and give me an opinion on it

Just grinding off parting lines and gating from the casting yeah, wouldnt worry about that.

Be interesting to see what they do with it tho.

the poor quality pictures are on parr with the casting they depict.
porosity.

Linishing marks from removal of gate flash from casting process, normal but rough as fcuk clearly. cheap manufacturer churning them out in China maybe..

no water cooler bearing... not a step fwd really.

I wish you luck on this

Unfortunately Bill, David Bailey was unavailable for the photo shoot:p

nope, its oil cooled only and I knew this from the start:) so no suprise for me there, but as long as its given plenty of time to cool etc as I normally do with a turbo then it will be fine. Others i.e. Robdon runs this unit with no issues what so ever

yeah marks are a bit rough, but its function which is important, not looks...as who is going to see it tucked any way

little update, turbo is now coming back from CR turbos and has gone through some hybrid treatment

will provide full updates with costs when she is back :)

which reminds me, must get onto storm for the clutch, brakes, bushes and ball joint

slowly coming together now. The biggest killer will be running the clutch in for 1000 miles, and the second that is done, she will be going in for the work :D
