I've just bought one of these from my local dealer, who unfortunately doesn't do discounts  anyway, there were no instructions in the box so I thought I'd have a browse for fitting tips.

This gives a pretty good idea of what to do: http://www.cupra.net/Leon/Mein_Cupra/MAL/page_05.html

I have one question though. In these pictures it looks like the hole for the base is cut to the size of the ashtray – with the base of the armrest sitting wider than the hole. i.e. on top of the console.
In the earlier pages of this thread people talk about making the hole wider than the ashtray so that the base of the arm rest sits inside.

Which is the correct way of doing it? surly there can only be one proper way as the actual fixing brackets are a fixed height?

Perhaps someone who has a dealer fitted armrest could post some pics? Did anyone get fitting instructions with their OEM seat armrest?

You will have to cut out around the top edge of the coin tray for the bracket to sit down square. If it's not right down & square, when you fit the arm rest you'll find the ash tray won't close properly as it'll foul on the allan bolt. Was over a year ago when I fitted mine... I just skimmed a bit more off the edge (closest to the drivers seat) until the bracket dropped straight in. To be honest, I didn't use the instructions that came in the box, I used the guide you posted :)

Just reading some of the posts in this thread... not sure why some people had to buy special bolts  As for brackets snapping, and some dealers having to weld the brackets  I can see how some people may have snapped one of the legs on the bracket... if the coin tray isn't sufficiently cut out, the bracket won't sit square, and some people may be tempted to align it by tightening too hard on the fixing bolts... but having to weld it in?!

Anyway, it's the best £100 I've spent on my LCR :funk: Ok, getting to the handbrake can be a pain, but it doesn't restrict gear changes, and I find it very useful & comfortable :)

Here's mine...
