Hi,

I got a very weird problem with my Seat Ibiza, TDI 1.9 (register in 2000). For some unknown reason, the radio will automatically switch on and therefore drain my battery (the engine is off, and key is plug out, the car is locked from outside). It happened a few days ago. I have no any problem with my car before. And today after lunch I checked the car, the raido is on again :-(

Could anyone help?

Thanks

Hi 13Roses

Did you manage to get it repaired for £70? I presume this was by only replacing the control unit for the radio, not the entire radio.
I've been told by my dealer that the only option is new radio unit which will cost between £ 280 - £ 500 depending on the actual model I need.
I have seen advertised on the internet a £70 radio repair service. Has anyone used it and was it succesful?

hi seat said they would fix problem for £86 incl vat but when i went and had it put back in they said it was the front part that needed replacing there was nothing wrong with the box at the back so i had to pay £220.12p incl vat because they quoted £86 the said sorry we will not charge u for labour they said u can pay instalments but i payed them i hope this is any use to u :-o

Thanks 13 roses

I will wait for the dealers final quote after they have looked at my car later this week- providing we can get it there. Once there, no doubt the battery will go completely flat and I will have no choice but to pay a massive sum to get it back.

I wonder if the £70 offer on the internet is worth considering.

Thanks 13 roses, Riko and Darren 200

Am taking out the fuse and this is working- but I can see this won't work long term as I am sure I'll forget one time and come out to a completely flat battery.

After discussion with the dealer they are now offering to send off the radio to a recognised repairer to see if it is possible to rectify the actual fault ( rather than the original discussion which was new radio , full stop) Apparently Seat used to do this automatically as it was a known fault.

going to sound REALLLY strange this but

try it with the front removed but NOT disconnected

had a few early ones that would stick around the tape player buttons causing it to think it was rewinding etc but not actually pushed in enough to make the motors spin

worth a try @ least

That would be good but mine does it and I don't even have the tape part anymore, modded to fit a regular stereo but the radio keeps coming on by itself. I used to just leave a tape in the player which stopped it but now I want to figure out the circuit so I can permanently disable the stupid thing:D

Thanks adulka. I have just shoved a tape in and turned the radio off successfully. It is 10,20 pm at night here in Spain, so I need to leave it overnight and check in the morning. Fingers crossed!

Muchas gracias adulka. You are clearly a technical genius! It was fine overnight and continues to behave normally.

I'm lead to believe that The tape in the player simply ensures the buttons to rewind/eject the tape etc are not being pressed at all. It may be a button is sticking, causing it to think its being used.
