Silicon Dielectric Grease - Smoother running, more responsive & less smokey TDI!!

Just read through the whole of this thread, and I was wondering if ACF50 is a dielectric grease? I use ACF50 on my bike to keep the rust at bay, its really good stuff, see here:

Its far better than WD40 for other jobs too. Anyway, as you will see from the link above, its used on aeroplane and is good for electrical contacts, and has a dielectric rating of almost 40KV (like I know wtf that means!!)

Seeing as I have ordered a new bottle of ACF50 and some of the grease (to put on the wheel nuts, hinges etc etc) I was wondering if it was actually the same stuff just a different name? Anyone know?

im thinking its more like WD-40..... but it does mention about electrical contact so perhaps it also has that effect, but i havent seen the stuff before so cant say.

DONT USE WD40!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It ultimately ends up drawing water into what ever you spray it on. Seriously, use ACF50 instead. Never seen a rusty aeroplane have you eh?!

There are people who are far cleverer than I am who know much more about it, have a look on some of the motorcycle forums about it.

Use ACF50 on your battery by all means! I do.

I know you were as sceptical about this as I am (grease hasn't arrived yet ) but the huge number of good reports means there is obviously something in this mod.

BUT I can't see how a system running only at 12-14v can suffer from arcing...surely you'd need a much higher voltage to force current across an air gap...?

I wonder if it's more a case that plugging/unplugging the connector cleans up corroded contacts and gives a more stable connection, and the grease just prevents them from getting corroded again. What do you reckon ?

Sorry to dig this up, but electricity flows through air meeting a resistance of 1000v per cm, not sire if this converts to ohms directly though. so 12v on a touching/thou mm will arc and give interference.

Ordered some from fleabay for £2.75 delivered.

What is it about the sensor not making the electrical connection properly which causes the car to smoke ?

I'm guessing that it is due to incorrect data causing the ECU to adjust fueling.

is the MAF on an altea the one straight on top? if anyone can confirm, seems to come from the airbox cant see what else it could be?

It is to rear of air box and has an eletrical plug on top of it. maf sensor located within this housing.

Yeah, thats the one! Bit tricky to get off first time, connector needs sqeezed in on left side and pulled off.

no reason why it wont work for Fords. you unplug the connector and put on the contacts for that. not on the maf itself. and no wd 40 wont work.

No, you want the same stuff from Maplins, but it's in a tube, not an aerosol. Their website has the same pic for both products (the wrong pic for the tube obviously) and last time I was in there they didn't have it in stock.
