Remap vs ESP on Cupra

When I had my car remapped it was a total animal. The car learned how to control the extra power and I thought yeah this is great.

Recently however I have thought the urgency had dissapated slightly. I checked the car for loose hoses etc but everything was ok. Now don't get me wrong the car was still really really quick but just didnt feel AS quick.

I then had a thought. Maybe the ecu had learnt to make the car too civil and was restaining the car. With this thought I switched the ESP off and then gave it a wee bit of welly. Well the car felt as if its restaining order had been lifted.

It was totally mental. I feel as if I now have a turbo boost button ie ESP switch. Cool or what!! ;)

The light flashed on occasion recently in the wet but the car has defo calmed down in the last week or so. It has only been mapped for just over 2 weeks.

Mork is so cynical. I realise the mind plays tricks but in this case I really noticed the difference. Makes me a bit nervous with the ESP off though. I will only do it in good dry conditions.

There is a guy on the forum I think H8*** who has noticed a power decrease. Wonder if the ESP button would make a difference on his or else he does have a genuine fault.

it'll be interesting if you have it backed up with some cold hard logs... would certainly be interesting to apply a 'torque limit' button

Sorry Mork. I don't have any proof but is food for thought for all the other mapped cupra or tfsi guys.

I had a tdi beforehand and i never tried it in that car.

make sure you turn esp back on when you brake or take a corner !

Surely the switch only turns the Traction Control off, but leaves the ESP on?

I know the button on mine is labeled ESP, but it only turns off the traction control.

but the main disadvantage of esp is that it slows you down, and in my opinion it is dangerous. i have been going round a private corner at speed when the esp has kicked in and it knocks the car all over the place all IMHO

It may slow you down a bit but it will save your life. The car is not dangerous because of ESP as the car has way more acceleration than 99% of cars on the road. To be honest ESP should really only be switched off on a track or in the snow.

Oh and for a bit of hooliganism on occasion

if you are going round 'private ' corners at speed surely you should be looking where you are going, not at the speedo to see if the yellow light is blinking!

i agree with polkr, drive with it on. better to arrive 2 minutes late than not to arrive at all.

what do you mean in the snow...i agree with your point to an extent but i just dont think it will save my life...everyone is differant but i prefer it off because i have had more scary moments with it on than off.

i take it you didnt get to a seat track day then!

imagine how much scarier it might have been with it switched off?!

you may be able to react as quickly as esp 99 times out of 100, but on that last 1 time....
you dont see roadside trees with bark scraped off beside boquets of flowers because esp was invented.
