Yes you are right with that and to be fair its the best way to do it on the older tdi engines as you dont get the engine check light illuminating

[Depending on the usage cycle, NOx at this setting can be increased by as much as 40%]) If all is well and you have a setting that you are happy with which results in an intake air volume of 370 mg/stroke or just a hair less, enter [Save]. The values aren't exactly the same, but when you enter the value 33768, the ECU will automatically adapt it. In my case it was something like 33628. 370mg/stroke is what your looking for."

Recently got an Ibiza Cupra TDI 160!!

Just reading on www.seatcupra.net about disabling the EGR. I take note of your points, however, I fail to see how VAG-COM can turn the EGR off or down when it is in actual fact controlled by inlet vacuum at part-throttle. Anyway, would like to try your method...do you know where I can get VAG-COM, for free? I know it is available at www.ross-tech.com but this is only shareware and, without paying for the full-unlocked program, will not allow you to SAVE new adaption values.

I think on reflection i'll be leaving mine with the EGR turned down with vagcom and skipping the EGR bypass. What would happen IF the turbo let go doesn't bear thinking about, if it's a safety feature it can stay. The only thing i'd look at doing in all seriousness is the EGR race pipe mod they do over on tdiclub where the EGR part of the system is effectively blanked off but the ASV is retained.

Reducing the EGR cycle was possible with the VE engine, not possible with the PD engine.

There may be some remapping programs (chip tuning) that include an EGR-delete option, for off-road use only (sic). Otherwise you are out of luck.

It works on the Ibiza PD but not the Leon PD engine although someone may want to correct me.

close enough:) or is it EDC15/16? Marcus, throttle and manifold depression are not really phrases to use together on a diesel, and the control vac' comes off the vac pump:D

Hi there

I plugged my egr vacuum pipe yesterday and got the dash engine light after 10 miles. I can live with this and pick-up is much smoother, however, maximum torque has reduced a little. Did you have any torque reduction when you did your car? Mine is a late 2004 Ibiza Cupra TDI? What year is your car? If yours is same year as mine it would appear that the blanking plate is the better of the 2 solutions...

I did not notice any loss when I did mine, just as you say smoother but not neccessarily any quicker:D mine is also 2004 but a leon cupra which has now covered 117k and fitter than ever
