LCR and uprating the handling/ride?

If in the future i wanted to just tweek the handling a touch for road use which 1 out of the 2 would be better?

1) Eibach/ H+R springs on standard dampers

2) Front and rear anti-roll bars


I know its a different car but i use to track my DC2 Integra on just Eibach springs and standard dampers and it was superb but which of the 2 would be more effective on the Cupra R?

Hi mate,i did front and rear roll bars on mine with standard springs/dampers and the difference was massive to handling,it was a great mod and made it much more solid round corners,i am going to change springs next but keep standard dampers,going for eibach,standard ones are just a bit soft,think it will be really good then,but rolls bars on there own make a major difference to car.

How about the standard springs on uprated dampers ?

the dampers are the expensive part so if you are changing dampers i would get a set of springs for around £140 to go with them.On my last car i kept standard dampers but swapped to eibach springs and it was really good,springs worked well with damper.

I'm thinking about this for mine...i have a leaky rear shock, and don't really want to lower my car...so i was thinking about getting uprated dampers and keep the original springs.

i'm considering koni FSD shocks for my LCR. i've already got uprated anti-roll bars (25mm H&R front and rear) the difference the ARB's made was amazing. i also fitted an audi S3 upper strut brace on the front and forge 10mm spacers on the back of my car too.

I can imagine but if poss and even though it does not look as good i might keep the standard ride height as it can struggle now with some of the speed bumps in our area but at the same time i would like the handling sharper

Stiffer shocks won't nescessarily mean you'll hit more bumps - it might mean you hit less as the car will be less inclined to dive under braking. However if you already ground out even when approaching at low speed without braking then going lower won't help

I know and thats why i said i was thinking of leaving the springs and just changing the dampers as this will not affect the ride heightyou must have read it wrong.

If i'd changed the ARB front and back first , i'd not have bothered with changing the shocks and springs unless they were knackered. I noticed more of an improvement in handling after those alone were changed. I personally wouldn't fit unmatched shocks and springs to a car - if you're going to change something, surely it's better to stick to components that were designed to work with each other?

In some cases i agree but not all as i have had many different set ups in the past which work great how much are the uprated anti-roll bars front and back? and is their much difference between Neuspeed and H+R ? thanks.

I can't answer that as i went for the Eibach kit - it's almost half the price of the Neuspeed or the H+R one and whilst i don't mind paying money for stuff, i didn't see how the other two could be twice as good as the Eibach kit. I think i paid about £260 for the Eibach set.

Can you believe that when my mate put Neuspeed ARBs on his LCR with standard springs and shocks it actually made the car less crashy. The car didnt dive into potholes and felt planted on the road. We went on a 3 hour drive up north for work purposes and we didnt feel as exhausted because of it.

sorry to go slightly off topic, but can someone explain why some shocks/suspension kits, are listed to fit a 1.8T, but some say "excluding cupra r" or something similar.

what is different on the cupra r's, to stop these other 1.8T kits from fitting?

reason i ask, is i found a Jamex kit for about £189, and emailed the seller about fitting (just to double check), and he says they won't fit (even though they are listed to fit 1.8T's).

The arb carrier is on the front damper on the LCR, not the case on the other Leons.

LCR has S3/TT type front suspension set up but mixed with Golf Mk4 type rear suspension set up.

You can buy non-cupra R suspension and fit it to the front .........just you'll have nowhere to fit your front arb
