For £200 its worth a try, if logs prove its worse the standard SMIC (which would mean it was really crap) then all you have to do is put the kit on ebay, and i'm guessing because the kit is already made up with piping etc for the Cupra then you may even get all your money back. Worth trying new things otherwise how else does the modifying world progress? If we all did the same things we'd all be driving around in identical cars....

ok mate i understand what saying just liked the idea of something a liltle different we will see on saturday :) and again i have never said its better, i will wait untill i have logs

It's not rocket science... simple facts are 1. It has more surface area than the standard item 2. Its mounted in direct air flow... you can harp on about end tank design / flow / pressure loss (dwell time meh? that has nothing to do with intercoolers) but I will bet any money all those things are better with this item than the standard intercooler.

The standard item was choosen for cost.. not performance... this WILL be better... and like I said I will bet any money logs will back this up.

Agreed but to him it feels better and pulls better, surely he knows his car better than anyone else, so would know if it feels better. Not actual proof no, but he wasnt claiming proof.

In my view that looks great... and even if the logs don't quite compare to the Forge one they have to show a damn site cooler inlet charge than the standard interwarmer.

Good stuff mate.. looks wicked! I'm fitting a similer one when the weather gets less wet and your pics have helped a great deal!

Any chance of more pics of the mounting brackets?

iv not once said it doesnt work, and iv not once said its not better than standard, everything is "might" because their is no proof

i elongated the wholes in the brackets so that it was aloud to sit on the two lugs coming off the crash bar rather than it sitting where a bolted it (probably on the wonk) lol

yes! lol theres alot of cutting envolved, the two bits of metal that are in the way of each pipe either side of the cooler need to go. alot of plastic trim and a load off the bumper which i was very nervous about but if you take your time and file it down nice and straight after its fine and you cant even tell its been touched :) still very scary tho! lol

Mate, I have owned, driven and modified turbocharged cars for over 10 years.. I think I know what I'm talking about.

I'm not saying those factors are not important (apart from dwell time, where did you get that one from? - I have only ever heard of this in relation to ignition systems)... but the fact remains the standard item is crap and this HAS to be an improvement... and that's what we are looking for, for £205 not £700!

Pounds per BHP I bet this is better than the Forge... (not saying it's better in outright performance, but for what you get for the money).

Dwell time: The period during which a dynamic process remains halted in order that another process may occur.

How does that relate to intercoolers? I think this is an Americanism of what might normally be referred to as an increase in lag... if anything the increased pipe length and volume of the intercooler 'might' make a difference here.. but from my experience (from fitting FMICs to other cars) the difference will be almost unnoticeable... and will be similar which ever brand you might choose... lag being far more a result of the turbo size / design than charge pipe plumbing.

I think we will all have to wait for the logs... but you know what my money is on.

what i mean by dwell time is how long the air is in the actual core getting cooled, kinda fits in with flow rate/cooling time/response etc etc

the pipework is more important than you think, fit 2" pipework to a k03 turbo, then fit 3" pipework to a k03 turbo, do you think the turbo will respond in the same way?

you say end tanks are not important, so why did AM Motersport go through 4 different end tank designs (that i know of) before they were happy with it - ever heard the saying "bigger is not always better" ??

alot of things being thrown about here, and il say it again, i never once said that it "IS" worse than standard - very doubtful infact, so where your getting your "i know what my money is on" bollox i will never know, but for example, if the laguna works much better than this one and cost is near enought the same would you not want to part with your hard earned on that one instead?? <--------------- thats my argument

just for the record i dont run the THS or Laguna intercooler so its not as if i have a biased opinion ....

C1TPT: looks like you put a fair bit of effort into making this work, i hope it works out for you

Yup.. bored as!

Ideally the intercooler pipework would be smaller on the "hot side" of the intercooler and larger on the "cold side" to promote flow towards the throttle body... no I don't think a K03s (or any turbo) would perform the same with different size pipework.. but I don't think the difference would be that great either (with in reason).

So.. you agree.. this will probably be an improvement over the standard item.. job done argument over.

but surely it depends on mods and map aswell that i can compare to my 3" (plus i do not have logs with my 3" pipework either as i have not got vag com)
