Ive got a 1.9 tdi 130 and was getting about 50 mpg so i bought a tuning box of the bay and i am now getting 60+ mpg plus it has got quicker acceleration.

According to SEAT's information it should average 56, so was expecting around 60 MPG for motorway driving.
Is it a resistor type tuning box?
If so you are not getting 60mpg
The computer gives a wrong reading with one of those fitted.
50mpg is good you should not be complaining

It works on resistance so it affects the signal. Did you fit in between the loom and the fuel temp sensor? If so to be honest I would remove it they are not a good way of obtaining more power they make your car overfuel by fooling the engine into thinking the diesel is colder thus the engine is colder. This can actually wash the oil of the cylinder bores and over time cause premature bore wear. Plus lumpy idle too. They are not worth 15p to make up so if it is a resistance type take it of asap and buy something more reliable like a tuning box which modifies injector signal or better still a remap.

An Ibiza tdi100 would generally get way more than 50mpg on a run. I get 48mpg average in my Altea 2.0 140, and on a run I get over 55mpg or so. Sounds like something's up, or you're driving in 4th gear all the time.

I have a leon tdi cupra and sometimes over the same journey I get 45 one day then 50 the other. Same speed driving style etc.
Some with the same car claim to get 50 mpg average, I can only get 45, some claim to get 40 or lower. My point being no two cars are the same and I know we all know this but tdi's seem to have good and bad days wher mpg is concerned. So if you have not had it long give it a while before you think something is wrong
Do an ecu reset give it about 100 miles and then see what you get

The weather isn't helping either. I'm seeing an average of 5mpg less with the cold mornings, than i did during the warmer months.
50mpg is a good average and i wouldn't assume anything is wrong with it.

It's my first TDi, but I did wonder whether the weather the cold mornings affects the MPG. I have to take the car back to SEAT to sort out some paint chips that should've have been done when I picked it up, so I'll just mention the MPG thing to them and get them to check it over to make sure everything's OK.

Taking it back to the dealers to have those things looked at might end up with a bit of paint and polish on the stonechips, and "There's nothing wrong with it sir blah, blah, blah...." after they've not bothered checking anything.
I average 50-53 mpg on my trips to work and 45-51mpg on trips home in my Ibiza Cupra TDI. MPG hasn't changed since the remap either which i'm pleased with.
Reason for worse MPG on return journey is due to travelling from sea level to 1000ft i reckon up to Weardale. It's always a good 5-8 mpg less.
It's getting better as the miles pile up though, just clocked up over 7k now.

how fast do drive onthe motorway? honestly?
70 is not as effficient as 50mph for example and 70 is slower than most on a motorway..

wind being the difference possibly, my journey to work has a prevailing tail wind, obviously going home i'm driving into a headwind, difference is very noticeable 5-10mpg, been doing this journey (64 mile round trip) 10 years, more often than not there is this difference.
Every single day the wind is the same direction and speed?
And i doubt wind makes that much of a difference because cars are tested for aerodynamics to prevent drag in wind.
The most common causes of poor MPG are:
Under inflated tyres
Cold weather
Heavy right foot
Poor use of gears
Hills
Mechanical fault
Poor fuel.
Hills and cold weather can't be helped, the rest is down to the driver.
Wind must make some difference, newton's law and all that.
For instance I do lots of cycling and some days I can't even freewheel down a hill I normally could due to the head wind. Not a car I know but same principle surely?
The Aerodynamics will help the car cut through the wind but the engine would have to work harder to push through it? Whether it has much affect on MPG I have no idea.
My biggest difference is all decided on which car I take to work lol

Snap !!, have done the journey to work on my bike and i much prefer the journey to work (circa 30 mile each way).
Wind does make a big difference to cycling and a definite difference to mpg on cars.
